Snails- no French terms to disguise them

The family lived in France from '55 til '58. Our first home was less than 100 yards from the Atlantic at high tide; our backyard was mostly a swamp. Our neighbor was a little old lady who had a livestock operation in a big wooden dresser in her yard. I will spare you the details, but her slugs with shells were enormous and when I first figured out what she was doing, I was physically ill.

In '73 I finally got drunk enough to try them and I could eat a dozen right now; they are merely a chewy vehicle for garlic, butter, parsley, and good bread. Not 100% sure I could eat 'em without some alcohol in advance though.

i order them pretty much every chance i get

escargot appetizer with french bread and some butter, soup and salad lyonnaise with a glass of red at chez nous, the perfect meal

I have loved escargot since I was a kid. But then, I have a sneaking suspicion that has more to do with lots of garlic and butter than anything else. You could probably soak rabbit turds in garlic butter and I'd pop 'em like candy.

Not that I think escargot is gross, or anything like that -- I'll eat anything, and usually like it. It's just that I've never had any escargot where "the flavor of the snail really came through" -- I really don't know how escargot tastes, and I think pretty much everyone is in the same boat. Escargot is generally just a slightly salty garlic butter delivery system. Which is alright by me.

Damn. Now I want some escargot, and some crunchy french bread for sopping.

Hat some in France at EPCOT wrapped in pastry, they were not too garlicy had a good flavor.

I like'em better than clams.

of course I eat all kinds of weird stuff.
