Smugness on the Left

Mr. Deez

Beer Prophet
An interesting article on how the Left has embraced a smugness and a phony moral and intellectual superiority rooted in a belief that its ideology is a monopoly on facts rather than a mere political opinion or world view. What I find noteworthy about it isn't that it discusses the smugness of American liberals. Shallow, self-serving articles that do that are a dime a dozen on sites like Breitbart, Daily Caller, etc. What's noteworthy is that it's coming from a publication (Vox) that often exemplifies the very smugness at issue. Furthermore, it's not coming from a conservative or a bitter old liberal who has been frozen out of the Party. It's written by a young, liberal millennial, who's showing a lot more perspective and ideological self-reflection than I would expect from someone who fits his demographic. I actually think he's a little unfair to liberals on a few points, but I think he's mostly right.

This deserves a second read.
At first reading I was saying "Hell yea!"bit now I want to read again and consider what the writer wanted to accomplish.
I surely did like though the OBVIOUS truth :yippee:

Wow fantastic article. I would not limit it to the left, but there is an extreme lack of empathy between Americans of different political views. Those same Americans that refuse to empathize with one another in turn wonder why their representatives refuse to compromise or work with the other party in D.C.

Quote of the month. Well said, Htown77.

The contrast with Horns 6721's reply is particularly noteworthy. He (she?) seems to celebrate anything that critiques the left, without recognizing that he is on the flipside of the very same coin.

The "celebration" as you called it was a pleased recognition of a liberal writer acknowledging how leftists, liberals think.
Interesting that for some on here one can not just comment on an article for the article 's sake alone.

Everything you ever post is proof of what NJL says above..... Like the next thing you're going to post, for example.
