Smuggling alcohol onto cruise ships?

I am preparing for my first post-9/11 cruise and am wondering if a crack down on security has resulted in people no longer able to smuggle alcohol on board. Anyone with any experience on this and, if still possible, any advice on best method of smuggling?

I used a plastic shampoo bottle from the Container store (a big one) and took some alcohol on. But I have heard stories about people's alcohol being taken. It also depends on the cruise line- some let you take wine on for a corkage fee.

Just put the liquor bottles in your luggage. They dont go through it. You always chance getting them broken though. Also you are normally allowed to bring 1 bottle of wine per person per night on board. You should board the ship with them in hand They will charge you $7 corkage fee if you bring them to dinner with you.

dont put liquor in a mouthwash bottle. It will taste like mouthwash no matter how many times you wash it out. How about Vodka in a Ozarka bottle or Beam in a Coke bottle if you want to be stealthy? Plastic would be safer than the liquor bottle anyway.

I am telling you big bottle(s) from Container store- I just wouldn't take a bunch or make sure you spread them out in the luggage. Won't taste like mouthwash.

Bourbon in a Listerine bottle. IF you wash it well with soap and water it will taste fine. Vodka in the rubbing alcohol bottle works well.

bout 4 years ago went on a cruise and stuffed the mini baileys bottles into my luggage. they got to my room just fine no masquerading what so ever. i definitely recommend plastic though... would hate for a glass bottle to break and all your clothes end up smelling like alcohol

WTF, which cruise line are you using?

I went on a Carnival cruise early this year. We put plastic flasks in our suitcase and wine bottles in a carry-on backpack. No problems with either. Carnival did charge a corking fee at dinner, but it was still cheaper than buying onboard.

Just travel on Regent Seven Seas Cruise Line. All beer/wine/liquor (as well as gratuities) included ... Glenlivet Scotch, Grey Goose Vodka, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, etc. Returned yesterday from an Alaskan cruise. Awesome.

Cruised Princess. Did not smuggle onto the ship the first day, but on the first port we docked at I bought a ton. With a line of hundreds of people trying to get back onto the ship, they didn't blink an eye!

If you rinse out the Listerine bottles with hot water, the bourbon DOES NOT taste like Listerine. That is what I use for my bourbon. Be sure to not take more than one bottle as it will look obvious.

As for vodka, you can sneak a shitload of it on board using bottled water bottles. Six 20 oz. bottles will hold almost a full gallon of vodka. You can buy additional bottles at the ports, and fill them up with duty free liquor.

Hope this helps,
Chief
