I am about to move to Dallas to attend SMU in the Fall and i dont know where to live, I figured Hornfans would know.
I am looking for an Apartment (2 bedroom, 2 bath) and I want to be in the area of $800 a month
I just don't know Dallas all that well, so I dont want to live in a sketchy neighborhood
I drove around out there some this last saturday and some places that looked okay and then I'd go around a corner and the area would look pretty bad. I saw some of the Apatments in the Village area, and they were okay. Does anyone live there? Any thoughts?
I really just want to be with in a short drive to SMU, not live in a terrible area and be around $800
Any info would great

$800 for a 2/2 is gonna be a tough find in Big D, especially close to SMU. You can always try the Village across 75 (Lovers) where they have umpteen different complexes that range in price but are reasonable. But really there are some hidden gems out there, so drive up and down all the streets shooting off Hillcrest to the West and you probably can find a killer deal. We got a 2/2 on McFarlin, half a block from campus (I could easily walk to law school), for $900, but that was 2000-2003, so it's probably gone up a little since then. Go check out the fourplex at 3438 McFarlin and see if there's any room...A little leg work will go a long way

At that price and size, the Village will definitely be your best bet. I've never lived there but had friends that did and they all liked it.

i'd almost be surprised if you could get anything a 2-2 at the village for $800 these days. but, if you can, it's a pretty nice place to live. i lived there in 04-05 during my 1L year at SMU law.

There were some places in the Village that were around 800 for a 2/2, I just didnt know if I could do better, sounds like I cant
Thanks for the feedback

Just FYI, I stayed in one of those 2/2 in the Village my 1L year of law school for $800. Just realize you get what you pay for. Old Apartment. Old Appliances. Old everything. Walls are very thin as well. Dallas just isn't that cheap anywhere close to campus/downtown unless you go further east which I don't reccomend.

Before you sign up at the Village, I do think it is worth your time to check around University Park to see if any of those apartments that are a block or two off campus meet your criteria. Also check some of the houses on Fondren and surrounding streets east of campus to see if there's anything agreeable over there.
