I want a smoker and it will be massively expensive to ship over here - I thought it might be a good idea just to have one made in China.

Does anyone have access to some plans I can sed to a metalworker. I actually think I can just send them a photo but If i can get plasn I'd ratehr do that.

I don't have plans for you, but check out the Klose website (http://bbqpits.com/) for a good foundation to show your Chinese welder.

Make sure they use native steel (i.e. new, not scrap) & 12 guage for the grill, 3/16" thick for the firebox.

A quality smoker is well "tuned" & that means special attention to the location & design of any baffles (keeps fire out of the smokebox) & size / location of the offset (if you have a 3rd chamber, i.e. firebox / center chamber / 3rd as offset).

Thermometer placement is important... can't stress this enough. A LOT of smokers made by homebrew guys get the thermometer wrong.

Also, get the firebox built with NO lip on the outside so any ash cleans out easily & doesn't hang up on the bottom of the firebox.

If you use square bottomed metal for your smoke chamber(s), get it beveled or pyramid shaped towards a threaded drainhole. If it's round (i.e. a cylinder), occasionally you can slightly jack up one end to run it towards the opposite end of the firebox & towards a drain hole.

You should most certainly post up some pics of the finished product.

Why not kill two birds with one stone? Alternatively- pick up a Weber Smoky Mountain- cheap, will work well and save a lot of time/ headache.

If you can't find anything on their website, try and get your hands on some of the hard copies. The classifieds in the back are full of people selling schematics for various things.
