Smaller signposts that your kids are growing up

I have a 13 yo and 7 yo and while the oldest officially bc'ing a teen is one of life's prominent signposts (along with getting out of dipers and giving up the pacifiers), I submit to you the following less obvious indicators of the passing of time:

*kids can buckle themself in the car
*you do not keep a constant eye on them at the swimming pool
*as a treat at Sonic son doesn't want a rootbeer float, he wants chili-cheese tater-tots

Thought I would share.

First time they order something besides a Kids meal at a fastfood-restaurant.

First time they purchase they're own coke at a conveinence store while you wait in the car/go to the restroom

Double points for first time doing the above use your CC..

When they remind you that "In four years I get to go to college!" said with a smile full of braces!

When you don't have to remind them to shower AND use soap each night.

For boys - when they stop using Axe products!

When their pile of laundry is bigger than yours for the same amount of time.

when one or both of your children says "Goddammit" in an appropriate manner and context.

First time you realize your child has ballooned up to "Chaz" Bono size because of this encouraged diet of garbage?

Both of my kids are in perfect health and weight (if anything they are too skinny). Both are in sports and exercise regularly. Part of growing up is learning moderation. Drinking a coke and eating an occasional fast food meal is not indicative of an unhealthy diet.

But, thanks for ruining what was a very nice thread for those of us who have kids.
