small engine troubleshooting

not so much the engine, but the fuel delivery i think. so i'm trying to weedeat and edge today and the thing stops on me like its out of gas. plenty in the tank. i inspect, find the weighted filter thing on the end of the gas line that knocks around in the tank has come off of the line. i reattach, but it does not go. i notice that the primer bulb does not reinflate quickly after i push it. do i have a fuel line clog somewhere, or could it be something else?

anybody got any ideas?

When mine did that it was because the fuel line was kinked between the tank and the carb. When you messed with the filter you might have accidentally pushed some extra line out of the tank, thus kinking it.

The little foam air filter might be clogged up or the carb might be gummed up.

seems strange that the carb would be gummed up as it was running fine for about 30 minutes before it died on me. either way, i guess i'm going to take it apart and inspect and clean everything from the fuel tank to the carb and see if that does the trick.
