I'm into this recently, I'm gonna run the Tyler half-marathon next month. Should be good weather, I'm hoping for a starting temp of 55 or so.

Anyway, so I ran the Sherman 15k the other day, took me a loooong time, but I never stopped running, except for walking through the water stations. Heat and humidity, whew!, anyway, thought I'd relay a weird part of this.

No spectators, open course, which meant I got to play chicken with a few cars(I lived in Sherman many years ago, they're nice).

And a weird course, they had us cross Hwy 75 at least twice, honestly it felt as if we crossed it a third time( I know it doesn't make sense).

Anyway, so I finish, and I'm looking for the clock and it's not there. the young guy says the clock isn't working, but I can look up my time from the chip.

I did, still can't believe no mile markers or spectators. It was almost a training run.

You never know what you're going up against when you run some of these races.
I ran one last year in Atlanta that was an 8k. They didn't have "k" markers; just mile markers. I felt pretty good as I hit mile 3 in about 16 minutes. So, I'm thinking....tear it up. You're going for a personal record.

Problem was that not only was the mile marker wrong (it was really about 2 miles) but the final 3 miles were almost all uphill. I thought I was going to die.

Funny side note. It was for sickle cell anemia. My two buds and I made up about 60% of the whiteys that day.

I ran a cool marathon last year called the Extraterrestrial Full Moon Midnight Marathon. The marathon is run on Highway 375 in the desert of Nevada, otherwise known as Area 51. The start time is midnight Pacific time (2 a.m. Central). They give you a glow stick to put around your neck and you are required to wear reflective clothing (many also wore a headlamp). An absolutely spooky run due to zero crowd support and seeing a bunch of shooting stars in the clear skies. If you want a non-traditional marathon (also a 51K, half-marathon, and 10K), this is the one. By the way, it is pretty cool to finish a marathon as the sun comes up.

My next marathon adventure is the Big Sur Marathon which also has zero crowd support and unending elevation changes (unless I sign up for the Austin Marathon).
