Slideshow from computer on HDTV

My BIL is gutting his house, and as any good man should, prior to paying for any demolition, reconstruciton or drywall, he is buying an HDTV. I have no issue with that. Here is what he wants to do: he has a computer in the study running XP. Today, he has it set up to do a slide show of all of his pictures (BTW - he honestly believes he is the only one who has thought to do this). When he is not watching TV, he wants to be able to switch inputs such that a continuous slide show is played from his TV, pulling pics off of his computer. He wants this independent of what is going on on the computer.

Does he need some special hardware, or can XP just connect to the TV directly? Thanks.

most new dvd players play jpg files, so if he just burnt them to a cd, he might just be able to play them on his dvd player.

runner - i would check it out a bit more before buying one. check out the fan club for real user experiences. i don't have one, but have been keeping my eye on this thing for a while.

from what i've read, it has a few shortcomings and probably doesn't work exactly like the box says it should; it's the first generation device of it's kind, so some bugs should be expected. but it seems that most of that is with the firmware, and dlink (and users) are improving that regularly. i think this is one of those gadgets for people who like to tinker with cutting edge stuff, but it isn't quite ready for the masses.

it is cool though, and has a lot of potential. these things will be ready for prime time soon.

if i were your bil, and whether or not i got this gizmo, i would run lots of data cable after gutting the house; wired ethernet dominates wireless in every way except portability.
