sleeping bag

If you are carrying it on a pack, go mummy. Lighter and rolls up smaller. Also keeps you warmer at night which may matter even in temps above freezing.

For car camping in warm weather, go standard and enjoy the legroom.

Is it just for outside or also for when kids come over or whatever? A good mummy outdoor sleeping bag will be like a little sauna inside.

Not sure what you mean by "standard." Do you mean a large rectangular box shape.

What's more important is comfort and that depends on you. How big are you, do you move a lot when you sleep, do you tend to roll the whole bag over when you sleep or do you roll over within the bag, do you think 32 is "cold" or are you comfortable at that temperature?
Personally, I don't even zip mine up until it gets below freezing but ymmv.

You really need to post what you will be using it for. Mummy bags are superior to the rectangular bags in just about every way. The disadvantages of them are their cost and they have less room.

Mummys are smaller, lighter and usually warmer. Better for backpacking. They are normally more expensive though.
rectangle bags are more utilitarian. You can unzip them and use them as a blanket, or zip them up to another bag for a double bad. They have more leg room. They are normally heavier and pack bigger.

There are things you can do to create more warmth, but you can't create more room in a mummy.

I go with the standard design - gotta have some room.

When it's cold outside and you want to sleep in
Go for a pallet that's so nice and thin.
Zip it on around while it's on the ground,
Spread it out and lay it on down.

When I woke up this morning
I was feeling mighty good.
My baby understood had to do what she should
Lying near a pile of wood.

Check them out at REI. There are temperature ratings, and differences in the filling material.
Some do zip together if you anticipate buying a second sleeping bag for you mate.
The rectangular ones can be used in a pinch unzipped as an extra comforter at home, if that's a consideration.
The mummy type fits better around the foot area which gets cold while camping. Even though you might just be car camping, one that squeezes into a small carrying bag is helpful, because when four people put all their camping gear into one vehicle, it fills up all the available space.
