The move will probably be pigeonholed as another one of Snyder's big splashes. But considering the lack of depth following the Daniels injury, their hand was forced in my opinion.
If Taylor turns out to be a one year rental, then it'll be tough to swallow considering the value the Skins gave up. Supposedly Taylor has told Cerrato that he'll play out the last 2 years of the contract and maybe even consider an extension.
On the surface, I like this deal, but only time will tell if it's truly worthwhile.
Seems like a good move for Taylor and both teams. At 33 he has at least a couple of good years left in a much better situation, while Washington fills a critical need and Miami gets draft picks to build on.
Yup, me too, very much. I like the guy to begin with when he was a Fin. I was bummed hearing about all of the injuries today to include Fred Smoot and another on top of the DE. So we upgraded there. I hope Smoot and all are okay.
I also hope this is not a trend for the NFL as a whole.
Great for the Fins. Taylor said he only wanted to play maybe one more season. So Fins get a 2nd round pick next year and a 6th in 2010 for him. They already drafted a DE this year in 2nd round as well. Letting Taylor and Thomas go now and rebuilding sooner than later is the best move that Parcellls has made so far. He is rebuilding the OL and DL with 3 picks each this past draft. These are guys that generally take a bit longer to develop so drafting them in his 1st draft shows he is looking 3 years out in building this team right now.
Taylor was unhappy in Miami and that was no secret. He wants to play more than one year but would have only done one more year in Miami. He has supposedly assured Cerrato that he will play at least two in D.C. and is happy to be there. It is one of the teams he saw himself going to play for a variety of reasons. So this may work out well for all parties involved.
He gets a new environment to end his career in and the Skins get a great player to fill the gap left by a season ending injury to a DE. He recovers from injury this year and then has a year to break back into the role with Taylor in maybe his last year. He can learn from him and take controlled snaps. Win, win.
I am fully behind this where I was not with the Bruce Smith and other acquisitions in the past of big names. Smith and others were quite obviously shells of their play of the past. Taylor very much is still a baller.
Not this year. New unproven coach, new system, lots of adjustments, & 3 teams that are better than them in their own division. I don't understand why Taylor wouldn't rather lose in Miami than DC.
Bad trade for Taylor (about 20 other teams would've been better)
Damn you. Now I have no reason to watch any games this season. You have ruined it for me. Can you go ahead and tell me the results for other teams and conferences so I can place some bets and have Sunday's freed up to do other things?
Thanks doc, I have insurance, copay is in the mail.
OK. Now I feel bad. I'll take ins only & return your copay.
OTOH, wish you would come to your senses. How can anyone like the skins?????
I hate 'em since George Allen & Jurgensen so I can't pass up a chance to jump on their current rebuilding status. They may in reality be headed in the right direction, & Zorn (other than his new job) is a guy that is really hard to dislike. He may turn out to be the best coach ever, but facts are facts & he is new at this & any coaching change takes some adjustment, so I really don't think Jason Taylor will reap any of the benefits from their current transition.
OTOH, Wade went 13-3 as the new coach last year so please don't quit watching on my account.
I think the Skins could actually improve as a team and still finish last in the division. That sounds very aggy, but I think the rest of the division is still ahead of them. Like last year, the East could produce 3 playoff teams with #4 finishing at .500.
It's way too early for predictions, but I could see the division winding up something like this:
Philly 10-6. Call me crazy, but I think they bounce back. This totally depends on a healthy McNabb and I think he returns to form. Plus Asante Samuel, Sheldon Brown, Lito Sheppard & Brian Dawkins in the secondary provide a lot of protection for Jim Johnson's aggresive blitz scheme.
Dallas 10-6. Wade's a bum, always has been (great analysis, huh?). In all seriousness, they were the luckiest team in the NFL in terms of avoiding the injury bug last year. You can't necessarily expect that to be the same this year. I think they'll still be a contender, but odds are they'll drop a couple games off of that gaudy 13-3 they posted in 07. And of course they'll lose their first playoff game...
Giants 8-8. This team has Super Bowl hangover written it. Let's face it, they were a mediocre team for 16 weeks last year. It wasn't until week 17 against the Pats that they transformed into world beaters. I'll be surprised if they can continue that form.
Skins 8-8. Their success hinges on Zorn adjusting, Campbell making the leap and the whole roster staying healthy...they lack depth nearly everywhere. They have too much talent to be awful, but too many ifs to really challenge.
The Skins are somewhat similar to Tennessee. Good team in a great division. Tremendous pressure on a young QB to take the team to the next level.
