Skiing in WV/PA

Hey y'all, thinking about doing a ski trip during the Prez Day weekend. I live in DC and we'll be limited to driving distance areas. Anyone tried skiing in West Virginia or Pennsylvania?

Snowshoe in WVA is about as good as it gets for the Mid Atlantic. The resort is entirely on top of the mountain which is very cool. It's not bad but it's not as good as Vermont and obviously doesn't compare to out West. It's also a pain to get to, little two lane mountain roads in WVA, it's interesting to say the least.

I've only gone boarding at Seven Springs and Ski Liberty. Of the two Seven Springs is quite a bit better. From what I hear MSH is right about Snowshoe. The company that owns it has dropped a ton of cash to model after their other places out West. It is about 5 hrs from DC. Another place to consider if you don't mind driving another hour is Holiday Valley up in Ellicottville, NY. The NY Times just wrote about it.

Unfortunately, as MSH said nothing is like Vermont or out West. The only things different are shorter lift lines and a lot shorter ski runs.

Thanks, I figured as much it wouldn't compare to the Northeast or out West.

Any more particular information on Snowshoe? Admittedly, I'm not familiar with skiing or how everything is laid out at a lodge. I'm poking around their website also.

It's been a long time (5+ years) since I was there and just by looking at their website, it looks like they've made a lot of improvements to the resort. As Konghorn said, a lot of money has been invested in the place.
I think we stayed at the Mountain lodge the last time I was there. We had about 5 people and it was a two room condo with a sleeper sofa.
It was really nice especially since the entire resort is located on top of the mountain giving you great views and the best part is when you wake up hungover in the morning, you don't have to wait in the lift line first thing in the morning. You just walk outside your condo and you're ready to ski down the mountain. I've never skied anywhere you can do that.

There are a number of bars and a pretty good Italian place in the Village too. Looks like there's even more bars and restaurants added since I was there. It has a pretty nice ski village atmosphere too, you won't need your car at all.
It's pretty cold up there on top of the mountain so unlike other places in the Mid Atlantic, there's usually decent snow cover especially if a big storm goes up the coast.
