Size Matters...

Bad matchup for us, that Memphis team has NBA size. I thought our guys played well today, & this team has a fuckload of heart. Pittman will be a force next year, he should be the starter for size/interior reasons.

Great season, Barnes is the man.

Yeah this "size" and "small guards" argument is stupid. Look at Stephen Curry and Davidson now. They came to play and have put up numbers. Comes down to big time players playing well in big time games. DJ and AJ did not so we lost.

I will not throw Barnes under the bus for this game, it's ignorant to do so. In my opinion he made the right personnel moves & put us in a position where we could win. You play this game 5 times and we lose 4, it is a BAD matchup.

By saying that Davidson can overcome size & we can't you are either impying:

a) our players are not as good as Davidson's
b) our scheme (coaching) sucked

Could it be that Memphis would beat the ever living **** out of KU?

Yeah and Stanford's size inside gave us problems too. What makes Memphis so tough is their guards have NBA size to go along with a dominant front court. And damn they are athletic.

Memphis wasn't quite as big, but Texas's guards could handle Stanford's guards. Memphis's guards were bigger and much more talented.

Not only were they a completely different defensive challenge, they affected just about every shot on offense as well.

its not how many 7 footers they have its the fact that all 5 of their guys on the court were Damion James height or larger.

The problem wasnt only the size but the athleticism. They were by far and away the most athletic team we played.
Im not dissappointed about this loss. Even if Texas played a great game i still think they wouldve lost, but by a little closer margin.

Those of you that weren't at the game shouldn't even be attempting to make these comparisons.

Memphis is flat out amazing and for some reason their size and athleticism just doesn't translate well to TV. And they took their play to a whole new level this weekend. Remember 2 nights ago they throttled a pretty damn good Michigan State team who also happens to have a great coach.

We could have played this game 100 times and we'd have been lucky to win 1 when Memphis decides to bring their A game. We had terrible match-up problems when we were on defense, and it got WORSE when we went on offense.

Of course size isn't the only factor. But when you combine size advantage with athleticism and desire to play defense, you have a defensive monster. That was Memphis today. There were 5 Justin Masons wearing Tiger uniforms, with different heights.

Those of you who didnt watch the game on TV shouldnt pretend like you were cheering for the Horns, We saw you sitting there acting indifferent.

Man...that pisses me off. Those of us at the game were not indifferent. But I guess you're maniac superfan number 1.

Memphis length and athleticism at every position (and skill at the guard spots) made this a virtually impossible matchup for the Horns. On numerous occassions we almost had a steal rebound etc. that we didn't come up with because Memphis was simply playing above us. AJ has had trouble all year with long athletic guards that can stay relatively close to him and it didn't help that they could switch on any screen and not really worry about the matchup. Our zone couldn't bother them out top when you have 6'3 and 6'7 guards throwing it over 5'10 and 6'0 guards to the middle of the zone and then you have a backside 6'2 guard on the baseline. Wish we would have played better, but Memphis was about 95% responsible for the way we played. This reminded me of the Texas-Arkansas matchups back in the BMW days where Arkansas was longer and more athletic at every position and we just couldn't get overcome it even when Lance Blanks and Travis Mays started hitting from about 35 feet. Memphis reminded me of a modern day Phi Slamma Jamma.
