Since DKR, Texas coaches in their first 38 games

Fred Akers 31-7
Mack Brown 27-11
Tom Herman 23-15
John Mackovick 22-14-2
David McWilliams 19-19
Charlie Strong 16-21 (didnt make it to 38 games)

Yesterday sucked and this whole season has been a disappointment, but lets not get on the crazy train of burning the whole thing down. Herman may or may not be the answer but if you buy into the whole he is a disaster that we have never before seen and I expect to lose and never have before etc., you have conveniently forgotten Texas football between '84 and '98.

I am not happy with where the Horns are but I am not ready to blow it all up.
 
David McWilliams inherited a dumpster fire so I don’t even consider him in this conversation. All the other coaches inherited some semblance of previously good recruiting classes.

I always felt like Mack Brown was going to turn a corner. And he did in his fourth year (2001). Fred Akers played for a MNC his first year, finished top ten his second, and in his third year, thanks to a last second field goal miss to Arkansas earlier in the season, was 9-1 and ranked 5th heading in to the aggy game. If Texas had won that game, the Horns were almost a lock to play #2 Bama in the Sugar Bowl.

Strong was just a bad choice. I’ll leave it there.

I think Mackovic and Herman are similar. Both have enormous egos. The teams under both seem to play schizophrenic, hot and cold. No consistency. There are some really big highs and some really big lows. But after three seasons, still no consistency.

And we know what happened to Mackovic

I do agree^^ that TH is comparable to Mackovic but he’s not far from MB either. So, honestly my question is which way is this going to go??
We’ll know in one year. I still think he can get this turned around if he doesn’t or hasn’t lost the team. That’s what happened to Mackovic and it is my fear with TH. How is the emotion of the entire team? Are they gonna fight to get to 8 wins and help TH recruit some help for the program or will they just mail it in? If we go 8-5, there is hope for the future. And remember he is recruiting his *** off for this staff or for the next one!
 
Major differences between Mackovic & Herman

1) Herman has his binder; Mackovic clutched his clipboard like it was the winning lottery ticket

2) Herman has yet to abandon his team on the sideline and pace behind the bench clutching his binder to his chest like a baby clutches his pacifier

3) Herman realizes there us a defense
 
Ironically, Mackovick is exactly who I most see in Herman. Lots of possibilities but lots of losses and missed opportunities too.
 
Akers had the best defense I ever saw

And he had Charlie Brewer's dad

Loved the guy but after a couple of one loss seasons everybody who counted gave up

OU and everybody else kept doing their thing
