SIMM versus DIMM RAM

Ok, you techiies, can someone tell me how I can find out which type of RAM my computer uses? I know I have 256MB of RAM, but I want to increase to 512MB to improve performance on some video editing software. My problem is buying the right type of RAM. I don't know if it uses DIMM or SIMM RAM, so I don't want to buy the wrong one. Is there a way to find this out without actually opening up the computer itself and making a physical inspection? Like can I go to "my computer" and find that somewhere under "properties?" Thanks.

Yep, If you know what kind of computer you have and the model number, you can go to sites that will tell you what you need.The Link apparently at this site your computer will tell the site what it is and the site will tell you what you need. MAGIC!

I found this one by typing "memory DIMM sales" into Google.

you may want to take a peek inside for a couple of reasons. first, depending on how many dimm slots you have (doubt you have simms; that's really old stuff), you will want to know if you have free slots. for instance, you could have only two slots both occupied by 128 mb sticks each; in that case, you would probably want to scap those and replace with 2 x 256 sticks. secondly, you can probably find a number somewhere on the motherboard to look up on google to be certain what kind of options you have.

or crucial.com

enter in the model # etc and they'll give u all the mem info you need about your pc and will sell you compatible memory.

crucial = micron = good!

3/4 of those on hornfans will tell you to go with MAJOR RAM over SIMM RAM.
