Silent Commits?

Lot of chatter in recent days about 5-7 silent commits...anyone willing to venture who these are likely to be?

I'll play.

I guess McCullough, Jones, Brown, Humphrey, Daniels, Cuffee, and Smith.

I would also guess Elliott at this moment but it's a long way to signing day.

SHHHHHHHH! Silence!

J McCulloch, K Porter, C Daniels, E Fowler, E Cuffee, B Jones, LJ Humphrey, Christmas-Giles based on nothing more than a WAG.

Cuffee is pretty much a given, he even was criticized for sending pro Texas twitter messages, during his OV to Arkansas.

LJ Humphrey is also a pretty sure thing.

Even that mouthpiece for aggy, Hamm, now says that McCulloch is headed for Texas.

Fowler is pretty much a done deal to LSU.

Hudson has narrowed it down to Baylor and Texas, not going to any more OV's.

Well, I'm a silent commit.

X @believe I'm guaranteeing a top 10 class.

I might walk on, I'm a long time commit to the baseball board, so my scholarship won't count against this board. :smile1:

Is a "silent" commitment really a commitment at all? As others have noted we're talking about teenagers with huge egos that can most likely be easily swayed with the right amount of BS. As I'm typing this I've silently committed to doing 5 things. Will I ever do them? Nobody knows..because I never said what they are. How can you realistically reserve a spot for a kid who might pick up a different hat and laugh it off how he just trolled some school right up to the last second? *cough* Perriloux *cough* (though that was obviously for the best in the end). If the kids are serious and want to help their school then they should just jump in and help the recruiting momentum. How does making a big splash on signing day do anything except get their twitter accounts buzzing and feed their egos? Make a big splash before signing day and maybe sway an extra big name to go to the good guys. I think the wait might be driving me daffy or something, I just hope this turns in to the dream instead of the nightmare.

If they talked to Strong and said they promised to commit later but didn't want to announce, then I guess that is a "silent commit". If they then decommit and go to another school, it is really no different to Strong than if they had publicly committed and then decommitted. Either way, he has reserved a space for a player and then been left holding the bag. The only differences are that as a silent commit the player gets to reserve his place on the team while making a big splash at his on timing, and he reduces some of the blow back he might receive if he had publicly committed. The bet is hedged while payoff exposure is increased.

I'm worried about the guy left holding the bag. Restaurants tend to get grumpy when I make a reservation for 12 and just show up with my wife because we like our space.

Some kids want to be able to broadcast their decision. They want to be able take their talents to xxxxx.

If they are silent so they can have their 15 minute slot on ESPNU then I'm okay with a silent commit

I suspect that a commitment is a commitment to CS, silent or otherwise. I feel CS makes it very clear what he expects and what a recruit should expect from him. That being said, silent or broadcast, commitments don't mean squat until the ink is on the LOI.

Come On, Feb 3

Dang, that is only a week away.
