Shutdown Bill Full of Pork

If you believed that the U.S. was really on the verge of default last night, you'll probably be surprised that after a deal was struck in the Senate about noon, the bill was loaded up with billions of dollars of pork before it was voted on about 6PM:

$2 billion for a damn in Ohio.
$400 million for Colorado.
$174,000 for a Senate widow whose late husband was a multi-millionaire.
Money to chase Joseph Kony around Africa, etc. etc.

I guess you still have to pass the bill to find out what's in it.

This really gives me a lot of hope that Congress is going to change its ways in the future.

Not to mention the 20% of the government that was shutdown get back paid, so they just had a long *** paid vacation.

The Federal Government is out of control.

WE THE PEOPLE should demand the entire gvt shut down save for the military. They are pretty useless anyway.

The real loser in the shutdown bill was the United States of America. More pork spending and no solutions or attempts at solutions for the national debt.

2 billion pork move came in from Feinstein of California for Ohio. Nothing has changed or ever will until a complete revolution occurs.

The Dems will not be happy until the country is totally bankrupt.

when the country is totally bankrupt, dems will have big smiles and toast their success? Is that what you tea bag idiots actually tell each other?

Life in the echo chamber must be a real adrenalin kick for people this stupid. Try to figure out what your opponents actually think before you pile the hate on.

"The problem is, is that the way Bush has done it over the last eight years is to take out a credit card from the Bank of China in the name of our children, driving up our national debt from $5 trillion for the first 42 presidents – #43 added $4 trillion by his lonesome, so that we now have over $9 trillion of debt that we are going to have to pay back — $30,000 for every man, woman and child. That’s irresponsible. It’s unpatriotic."

Straight from the mouth of Obama, then he doubled it. I am really amazed at how stupid and gullible you libs are.

Given how challenging it is to get ANY funding through this Congres it's not a surprise to me that there were a lot of "riders" for extraneous funding. That doesn't mean it's right and I do support the Line-item veto.

What I gathered was that the priority should be eliminating hate and bigotry so that when the U.S. goes bankrupt, fails as a nation, and the quality life for all people (black, white, etc.) goes down, we'll at least have eliminated hate and bigotry.

The environment will go to hell. Pollution will be rampant. The earth will no longer be sustainable, but we'll have eliminated bigotry.

We could focus on the real problems that affect all americans; the national debt, the economy, the unnecessary foreign wars, the ridiculous defense spending, the environment, the energy crisis, the lack of focus on things that promote scientific progress like NASA.

Instead we apparently should discuss eliminating bigotry while congressmen of both parties laugh and smile, do nothing about problems they can actually solve, and waste more tax payer money.

We could, as a people, do a lot of great things. We could fix all the problems I have discussed. Instead, some posters feel the priority should be controlling the hearts and minds of men. Guess what? If history has taught us anything, the hearts and minds of men cannot be controlled. Bigotry, unfortunately, will always exist. Focussing our time and efforts on an impossible task (bigotry's elimination), instead of solutions to problems that benefit EVERYONE is illogical, nonsensical and just plain idiotic.

Want to kill the the Tea Party and get rid of Ted Cruz forever?

Eliminate the national debt.

I stand corrected on the sponsorship. Good news is that Alexander will be out after the next election thanks to the Tea Party. My posts are consistent, both establishments need to go.

Time for a third party. I am old and laughed through the years at the suggestion of a moderate/conservative third party, but after this debacle I believe it is time.

A third party is how Hitler came to power. I think the party system is stupid anyway and leaves us "boxed in" and labeled.

I say do away completely with the party system, lump all candidates together and hold one or two primaries to narrow down to two. Then do a final election. I think we'd end up with a healthy choice of better qualified candidates to choose from and we might get away from this damned liberal or conservative label so you feel you have to vote for someone because of the label.

I don't either, but I would bet a years salary that over 90% or more of the voting population does. My wife still blames me for Bill Clinton because I voted for Ross Perot. Yep, I admitted it.......

Wow, I don't think I know any other person willing to admit that. I blame him for infomercials, because they didn't exist before his charts and graphs graced the tv screen an hour at a time.

Didn't Perot get ~10% of the vote? That's a fair amount of votes.

My excuse? I was young...it was only my 2nd election and I thought Perot would have shaken up the establishment pretty good. The charts got me.

I don't remember how many votes. Pretty much ditto to your second paragraph. I feel now like I did then. I'm just not happy with the choices on the ballot. Then they perform like I thought they would.

If the economy lost .6 just because we didn't have a few sectors of the gvt open then maybe that is a freaking sign that the ******* gvt is too ******* big!

Slash spending, grow some balls and actually CUT SPENDING. Of course Roger would never do that as it might take some money from his sect of voters.

Another interesting thing about this bill is that temporarily there is no debt limit. Previous to this bill the debt limit was 16.669 trillion dollars. Now Treasury can issue as much debt as needed. Given the administration's free spending ways, this seems kind of scary to me.
