Showing My Age

I had a new stereo and speakers installed in my '92 Cherokee today to replace the OEM unit that was on it's last leg.

I'm just blown away by the moderately priced Pioneer stereo/cd player I had installed. 24 radio pre-sets, equalizer, wireless remote. It took me an hour to read the owners manual. What's up with XM satellite radio?

You read the manual? Seriously, I've had XM since Christmas and I haven't listened to FM since. I only catch AM to hear local sports action. XM is worth every penny of the $10/ per month subscription.

I'm still trying to figure why I have a wireless remote and what an equalizer does. With that said, after pumping up the volume on SRV today and rattling the windows of the car in the next lane, I'm pretty sure I'm not going to need that extra amp.

Just put your equalizer in a "V" formation with the middle slider half-way down (0) and you'll be fine for FM and regular music. For AM talk, you'll want to invert that to more of an "A" formation. Just remember that the middle slider controls the "voice" part of the sound, the left side of the equalizer controls the bass and the right side controls the treble.

Thanks Reboot. Actually I have kind of figured out the equalizer, but there's no "slides", it's all digital, with a display on the faceplate.

I didn't realize what I was missing sound wise. The new speakers are great, but I kind of miss the old buzz. My new system is worth about as much as the vehicle.
