Should the Rockets move Yao?

I've never been a big Yao Ming fan. To me, he looks like a big, slow doof plus he seems to be MIA much of the time.

The Rockets seem to move the ball much better without him. They also seem to hustle more of defense.

The merchandising value to the Rockets probably means this never happens, but I wonder what he would be worth from a trade standpoint.

At worst, he's the 3rd best center in the NBA. Lots of value, but what would you get in return to make the team better. Never gonna happen.

No way. Just because you can't jump out of a gym doesn't mean your not good. Yao is a great, if not the best center in the NBA. The Rockets are very effective with him in the lineup, they are on a roll now but are not better off without him. Look at his numbers. He is not a doof, doofs don't have the fg % he does or the ft% he does.
The injury questions surrounding Yao are the main factor if the Rockets were ever to consider shopping him, and, IMO Rockets are better defensively most of the time without him, but not all of the time.
But considering the his presence on the team and the offense he brings, he should never be traded.

Yeah...it sucks having another scoring option on your team.

3rd best center? Yes, Dwight Howard is a powerful jumping fool but Yao does hold his own against any big man in the world.

Move Yao? what is Chinese for no?

when drafted, I thought he was a project but the man has fire, and lots of talent.

Yao is staying in Houston no matter what the internet experts say.

forget the aspect of marketing which says there is no way in hell this would happen

Before you can honestly say that this team is better without him I think you should wait for the playoffs. If we get to the playoffs and the game becomes more of a halfcourt game. It very well might show that Yao would be invaluable or maybe that the team really is better without him. We will have to wait till then.

Even if the team is better without him what that means to me is that next year you limit his minutes so that he can go 100% for fewer minutes and be fresher throughout the season.

Landry and Scola kick ***!!!! (that has nothing to do with this thread but it had to be said)

I don't watch as much Rocket-ball as I should, but from what I see the whole team seems to lack movement when he's on the floor.

Agree with the poster above, its probably a better question to ask after seeing how deep the Rockets go into the playoffs without him.

if the presidential campaign has shown us anything, it's that we should stop outsourcing to china.

they tek er jebs.

Yao is awesome. how anyone is not a fan of this guy is beyond me.

This thread is idiotic in so many levels.

It's obvious that the OP has a preconceived notion about Yao that won't change because he hasn't watched Yao play recently if at all.

Houston is playing well because they still have a great TEAM even without Yao, and also because they're beating up on ****** teams. Shouldn't you make a conclusion on the Yao-less Rockets say... in the PLAYOFFS? There is also concept called depth. Like I said before, Mutombo is the best backup center in the league and he's better than Yao defensively. Yao's absence gives more minutes to Scola, Landry, and especially Hayes, who is our best defensive player on the team.

Yao is a cash cow. We would never get equal value in trading him and you don't trade dominating big men to begin with.

The Rockets won 12 in a row with Yao. They've now won 5 in a row without him. Yet, somehow, people are inferring that he was holding them back?

I mean, it's obviously false if you actually have watched the Rockets the past few years. But it's a stupid comment even in the context of the last month.

If you move yao you are just a good team that will never win a championship. With Yao you are a good team with legitimate title contentions. Plain and simple, getting rid of Yao would be a terrible move. Houston without Yao will NEVER win an NBA championship

The biggest problem with Yao is that he is pretty bad on defense, but I really don't think it's anywhere close to the point where the Rockets would be better off trading him...

Hilarious. Beyond the marketing value of Yao, he also makes the other Rockets more valuable. Who has the best selling jersey in China? Tracy McGrady. Yao is much bigger than his game.

All of that said, he is the best center in the league. He is averaging 22/10 and he is the teams best FT shooter and one of the better ones in the league. He is a great passer too and can block shots. Why in the world would the Rockets want to move him?

Do you not think the Rockets would still be winning with him?

I WOULD trade Yao though, but it would take Kevin Garnett and three #1 draft picks.

God love Dikembe Mutombo but are you saying that the Rockets are better NOW ith him in the lineup than with Yao?

Sure, the Rockets won't be pushing the ball as much with Yao in the lineup but they'll trade it off for having a legit post player who can hit you for 25 or 30 and pass out of the post to boot.
