Should I get the iphone?

I am thinking about getting the new iphone for me and the wife for Christmas. My question is, is there plans from Apple for a new release of a new model? I know some people we upset when this model was released after paying a lot of cash for the first version.
Also is it worth springing an extra hundred for the 16 gig?

I bought it the day the original came out and I had no problem with the price change... Thats how good it is... I would recommend it, and to pay the extra cash for the extra memory... well worth it.

after a lot of waiting and thinking i finally got one. everyone that i know that has one completely loves it.

the pros: i'll never be bored again, easy to understand and intuitive, if you have a mac it integrates into your life. (maybe pc's too?)

the cons: i'm not too sure about att's signal strength but its early. no cut and paste, no picture messages, battery life is a little suspect, att will rip you off big time on their rates

i would go ahead and get it, i think 3rd gen iphone won't come out for a few more months.

No picture messages? how can that be?

Right now the grandparents just love to receive pics of their what their grandkids are doing all the time. That would suck if true.

I don't know a single person that has gotten the iphone and been sorry. Even when it acts up, it is excusable because it provides such entertainment the rest of the time, and is so incredibly easy to use. The no picture text thing is annoying, though, but you can easily send the pic via email (but I don't know how efficient that is for the grandparents!) The no cut and paste thing annoys me, too.
Play with someone's phone that has downloaded some cool applications such as Shazam and Urbanspoon- you won't have any more doubts.

The store I bought mine at had one on display that you could play with, make calls, get online. Try it out and see what you think. Keep in mind that the keyboard/screen takes some getting used to but after a few days its great.

I waited for a while bfore getting one despite wanting one when they initally came out. I stuck around for the 3G, and finally broke down and bought one. My concerns at the time were storage, battery life, and dropped calls. All have been a problem for me, but this is still THE GREATEST THING I'VE EVER BOUGHT!

Seriously it's amazing. And the reason is because of the apps. When my wife and I go on trips we used to bring a phone, an ipod, a GPS, and a laptop. Now all we need is the iphone. We use to it to find places to eat (urbanspoon), and stores to shop at (yelp & whitepages) in random cities. The GPS works really well especially when walking around a strange town. Most of our music is on it, but apps such as Pandora and AOL Radio make up for keeping some songs off the HD. I used it just this past weekend at my in-laws house when their internet was down to change my FFL line-up. I used it at TX/OU to check hornfans at half time (We were getting blown out apparently

) We used it in our car when we couldn't get one of the debates on the radio (AOL Radio). And I use it every time I hear a song on the radio and want to know the name and artist of (shazam) Seriously I don't know how we ever got by without one. And to reiterate the best part is traveling with it and not having to lug around a bunch of stuff.

So yes I still wish the HD was larger, I wish the battery lasted longer, I wish I could send picture mail, I wish I didn't get dropped calls, but I wouldn't return this thing if they offered me twice my money back.

They are really cool. Infact I just downloaded the app "urbanspoon" based on Whosehouse posts earlier and it works great!

Thanks Whosehouse!

They even have a free app with the US Constitution on it. Preamble, Articles, Signers, Amendments, and notes on each section.

The US ******* Constitution in your pocket.

Are you looking just as a personal device or will it be used for business/work? If you don't need it for work, go for it. If you need the functionality of corporate email and MS Office and syncing your Outlook Contacts, etc, get a windows mobile device.

I have a Sprint Mogul and I love it. It's not as "pretty" as the iphone but much more functional for work. I use it as a GPS data collection device (for work), I sync my personal and work emails on it and for basic web browsing.

I run ArcPad (ESRI - GIS software) in conjunction with the built in GPS and have installed a wi-fi sniffer, msn messenger and a program that allows me to use it as a wireless router so I can tether it to my laptop if the need arises.

Without a doubt it's worth every penny. I've had mine for over a year now and I sometimes want a new phone just for the change. But when I start looking at other phones I realize I can't replace the I-phone. I have a 8gb phone and don't have an issue with phone storage because I use Pandora for most of my music. Pandora is an unlimited playlist. I would have paid ten bucks for it but it's a free app!

I also send pics constantly to the grandparents. They get a lot more now than before the I-phone. If they don't have email on their phones and they have att service you can email them a picture that shows up in there text message inbox. Just email it to [email protected]. Just replace the x's with the full phone number. I send pics to my mother in-law's razor phone and she receives them just fine.

There are multiple rumors that the iPhone will be available at Costco for $149 in January. For those that plan on purchasing, it might be something to keep in mind.

Is there any rumor as to when the 3rd gen will be released? I'm hoping it's in the summer again, because if so, I can hold off until then.
