Should BO have gone to Paris?

Horn6721

Hook'em
50 leaders of nations joined the French President today in a show of unity against radical Islam's acts of terrorism
Supposedly Holder was there but so far he hasn't been seen.

Should BO have gone?

Fwiw, holder was on tv from Paris this morning. I probably would have gone because Europe is finally coming to reality on what they have allowed to happen. I think this process needs to be encouraged. But, I'm not worked up about it because Europeans made this mess and they will be the ones that have to solve it.

Can anyone deny the message/ optics of all those LEADERS of different nations uniting against radical islam was powerful?
Anyone think the radical islamists won't be paying attention to the fact that BO chose not to be there? Think they haven't paid attention to his refusal and reluctance to not call acts of terror by islamists acts of terror ?

larry T where was Holder shown on TV? I watched the networks coverage of this and they did not show Holder while I was watching it. Was he marching with the leaders?

I think we often make too much of symbolic gestures of stuff. But geez, the White House seriously has other things more important on its plan of the day?

2000
I understand your point about symbols not always important but this was a world symbol never before seen, important enough that over 48 leaders made the trip including muslim leaders. Since the USA is a prime target for islamists how could BO not show up?

Like you say what was BO doing that was mire important? It was too cold too play golf. did BO go bowling today?

edit
someone suggested BO could have been a target. Yea. how about Bibi? think jew hating islamists wouldn't have liked to kill the PM Of Israel?

did they?

and if BO was so afraid how about Biden? The biggest platform ever against radical islamists and the USA didn't have a leader there?

I thought Obama should have been there as a sign of unity, but there weren't any world leaders from the Americas there. It's quite an excursion for an impromptu trip, especially considering the route-planning and vetting for which the Secret Service has been so-recently called to task. I could potentially see Biden, but really, Euros have a knack for all sorts of "calls to action" and their action is basically this... protesting in streets. Talking about the problem is nice, but they're not going to fix anything.

It's ok if you just want to admit that BO can't win no matter what. If he goes, there's the crowd who says "doesn't he have more important things to attend to at home?"

Would you agree that islamist terrorism is a problem for USA ?
how about Mexico? I don't remember any incidents of muslim terror in Mexico
and if there have been in Canada there haven't been many
so I am not sure that no one from any other country in the Americas going bolsters BO not going.
As far as plans being difficult to make? Having over 48 other leaders including the UK Israel and Germany not to mention many muslim and Arab nations suggest they found a way. Think it was any easier for them, Cameron? Merkel? any of the arab countires? How about Bibi, was it easy for him?
This was much more than a march in the park, or at least those other leaders saw it as more important.

Boy
We all are glad BO continued with the plan to kill OBL. Good for BO!
but please don't pretend that stopped or slowed or ( How did BO put it? oh yea degrade ) AQ
and don't pretend you agree with BO that ISIS is a JV.

What happened today was unprecedented. There has not been ever in all the world's history a coming together of this many nations ,nations of all religions and ideology.
against a radical element that wants to kill Americans and jews most of all but has shown willingness to kill other muslims.
How do you think the other leaders, the people in the other countries and even the islamists view BO not bothering to come or even send the VP?

Not only was he not there, no representative from the U.S. was present. Obama is a phony. His whole administration is a sham. But, that's a whole other book. Sure, OBL was taken out during his tenure in office. Even a broken clock is right twice a day. Still, our standing on the world stage has diminished significantly during his time in office. He can't even bring himself to utter the words "Islamic terrorism." He and his cronies are so blinded by political correctness and leftist philosophy that's it's absolutely pathetic. His disdain for American exceptionalism is nothing short of a disgrace. Yet, he still garners support from a percentage of the electorate. Granted, that percentage is shrinking. By the time he leaves office he will have done more damage to the U.S. in terms of respectability than any previous president. What strikes me as amazing, and sad, is the fact that he was elected to a second term. Without putting Romney on an undeserved petestal, almost anyone would have been a move in a better direction than the one that this fool has guided us on. We should be in an all out, no holds barred war against Islamic extremism and our commander in chief cannot even bring himself to admit it. As far as he is concerned these acts of terror are nothing more than unfortunate criminal acts. His head is not in the sand. It's right where he wants it to be. He's not stupid, ignorant, or lacking in intelligence. He's a calculated politician that hails from the extreme left of the political spectrum and he's implementing the exact type of change he has hope to all along. And yet the liberals continue to view him through rose colored glasses. I guess a large number of the voting population has been sufficiently brainwashed through the ultra liberal higher educational institutions to believe that what we are experiencing now is not only the norm but perfectly acceptable. It's nothing but sad.

Was it known how big today's demonstration would be at the point in time BO needed to know in order to make the trip? It's really tough to move all the necessary staff on a days notice. It sounds like most of the leaders had much less distance to travel and could have made it a 1 or 2 day trip. I'm really happy about what is happening and it seems that BO isn't a necessary component in the change that's happening over there.

larry t
Really, You think BO didn't go because he didn't know how large the rally was going to be? France is after all our oldest ally and Chirac was the first world leader to visit USA after 9/11
He knew how many different leaders we going to be there in time to fly there. How long is a flight on AF1?

Think these people just jumped on a plane?

Of all the nations in the world which ones would you Larry T think are at the top of most islamist groups?

THIS WAS AN UNPRECEDENTED GATHERING on a subject that affects our country.

OK so BO is afraid or too busy( btw he had nothing scheduled today) why not send Biden?

I have no idea why he didn't go. I'm just willing to accept that there are possibilities other than him being a terrorist loving Muslim. It's a large operation to get him over there with the necessary staff. I will have a better idea of his motivation if somebody can tell me the date that it was known that the march would take place and that all of these world leaders would be attending. Was this planned 5 days ago or 2 days ago? The answer changes the logistics dramatically.

"Throughout history, islam has demonstrated through words and deeds the possibilities of religious tolerance and racial equality."

-Barack Obama 2009

"I've made it clear that America is not -and never will be - at war with islam.

-Barack Obama 2009

Two very telling statements. The former is an outright lie and the latter explains his reluctance to express any significant opposition to their dreams of caliphate. The man is an enemy of the state. He just happens to hold political office. He will do whatever he can reasonably get by with to compromise the integrity of our cultural values.

The second statement sounds exactly like what they were saying a the demonstrations. You cant call them bad asses and him a Muslim sympathizer for largely having the same stance on Islam. While I give the euros credit for coming to their senses somewhat, the majority of them probably have a very similar stance as Obama. Most used PC words such as "extremism" not the all out denouncement of Islam that many on the right want.

Hmmm. I'd be willing to bet that a large segment of the Islamic population feels that the acts were justified. They wouldn't commit the act, but they understand the reasoning. No all, maybe not most, but more than many think. And I have no clue where the idea that the right wants to go to war with all of Islam. But, it's not inherently a peaceful religion. Islam means submission. There are two layers of submission: submission to allah and submission to Muslims by others. Some, of course, take a more literal approach than others. Their numbers are not large enough here for them to impose their ideology.
I also believe that many shy away from outright condoning their actions while, at the same time, believing that their motives are noble. Most people that have spent time studying Islam and/or living in areas with large Muslim populations will attest to this. It's not politically correct to make these kind of statements. So, while many on the left tend to paint those on the right as hate mongers who lump ALL Muslims together, many on the right see liberals who will go to ridiculous extemes to ignore the obvious. My feeling is that the religious ties that bind them are extremely strong and will, when push comes to shove, be enough to unite them against those whom they view as inferior infidels. Sometimes the truth needs to eclipse a desired political narrative.

Oh, and by the way, based upon his actions, we won't ever be at a full scale war with radical Islam. He'd have to be pressured into it.

I have any idea how this gathering was organized or promoted. However, it is interesting to note that not a single leader from more than about two hours from Paris attend. Was this a gathering of world leaders, or a gathering of European and Middle East / North African leaders?

If this was a summit on global terrorism, I think Obama should have moved mountains to get there. I can't imagine that the logistics would have been unsurmountable. But if this was a summit on European terrorism, I'm not concerned about his non-attendance.

Not to worry BO is doing what he does best: convening a summit on 'violent extremism' . That'll show 'em.

He doesn't even have the balls to say "islamic Extremism", much less to do anything about it.

And by the way, I heard just this morning that ISIS was parading through the streets of Tripoli, Libya over the weekend. Apparently they've taken over a large swath of Libya. You know Libya, BO's one adventure in nation building where he helped over throw Gadhafi and installed a terrorist regime.

Also, Boko Haram has taken over Northern Nigeria, killeing 2,000 villagers in one town. That oil rich nation is well on its way to becoming a failed state.

But, BO is getting in lots of vacation and golf time and has plenty of time to talk about NFL officiating.

What a silly thread. So the EU leaders and Netanyahu march. My first thought when seeing the images was that it was a perfect target for a terrorist act.

As has been stated, Holder was in Paris representing Obama.

Horn6721- is your supposition that terrorists watched the march, noticed Obama wasn't with them and are emboldened against America because of this?
wtf.gif

NJ?
Really? Your excusing BO saying no other world leader had more than a 2 hr flight? I suggest you do a search on some flight times.

Husker
No I wouldn't say the islamists are more emboldened. I'd use the word reassured.
I remember OBL saying the USA showed the world we were paper tigers in the fight against islamists.
How can we ask the other nations to join us if we won't join our oldest ally and 48 or so other world leaders in a simple show of unity against islamists?

I hate being put in the position to defend Obama, but killing olb and droning the **** out of terrorists speaks louder than a demonstration. Obl said we were a paper tiger....then we killed his *** and dumped him in the ocean.

I think it's fair to say that we should have sent someone with a higher profile to be there," White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Monday afternoon.

Not having Holder, who was already there, march with the others was stupid. With my feelings on Holder well known, I can say that this was a case of addition by subtraction.
