Shiner Light

I was at the grocery store yesterday and I made a quick line down the beer aisle, for what reason I don't know. Now living in Atlanta most of the grocery stores here have a pretty solid selection of beer and at most of them I can pick up Shiner Bock and even the Hefeweizen sometimes. Yesterday for the first time I saw Shiner Light.

I was just curious if anyone has tried it and what their thoughts were. Is it a new beer trying to capitalize on the light beer, lower cal craze or has it been around a while? The website made it sound like it's not available outside of Texas which must mean it's outdated.

It's Shiner's light beer they introduced about 4 years ago. I guess it's alright for a light, but I don't drink light beer so I haven't had it much.

im not a huge light lover but I actually like Shiner light better than the regular Shiner out there right now

may be blasphemy but I dont think regular Shiner tastes that good any more

Strangely, I didn't like it. It was too heavy for what I brain expected out of a light beer. I prefer Shiner Blonde if I'm not drinking Bock. But that's just me ...

I bought a 12 pack last night. Its my wife's favorite beer, and I like it, so its our brand of choice.

My wife drinks it. I buy a sixer and a 12 of Sierra Nevada. i mix in a couple lights with my Sierra nad the two are finished about the same time.

Shiner Light only has about 20 fewer calories than Shiner Bock and Shiner Blonde, compared to an average difference of 30-45 fewer calories for other light beers relative to their flagships. So, if you're drinking it to save on calories, it's probably not making a huge difference, although of course every little bit can help. But if you're drinking it because you enjoy the flavor, then carry on.

I don't find it very drinkable. I do like Shiner Bock, though.

I tend to drink ales, mostly of the British variety (Fuller's, Young's, Bass, etc.). I've never found a light beer I can tolerate enough to drink on even a semi-regular basis. Any recommendations? (Strangely enough, I'm actually more interested in lower alcohol content than a sheer reduction in calories. Guinness Pub Draft works out pretty nicely at 4% ABV, but sometimes, I want more of an ale.)
