The long arm of the law

If I remember that game correctly, the Aggies went up 10-0 or 13-0 in the first quarter, were celebrating like they had won the MNC, and then McIvor just exploded on them. For some reason I deluded myself into thinking this high octane offense would carry into the Cotton Bowl against Georgia, but the real Akers offense showed up...

Saw his campaign signs on several ranch fences when we went camping in the Davis Mountains a month or so ago. Good luck to Rick McIvor in the election.
That aggy game where he bombed them into submission was one of my favorites, what year was that one, 1983?

^Correct. I was there - the only time I've ever been to College Station. It was a horribly windy day - all of the points were scored with the wind. Aggy had a 13-0 lead, and let the Horns score two TDs late in the half to take a 14-13 lead. In the first ten miniutes of the third quarter, the Horns scored 31 points - making a total of 45 points in 15 minutes! Took the spirit right out of the crowd.

I was sitting at the cesspool on the Brazos with Brett Stafford's parents. After that first quarter, I told Dick that I was ready to waste Brett's "shirt" and put him in. Dick looked at me and said, "Relax, you're not going to believe what you're about to see".

The site of Rick's worst game may have been the site of his best game two years later.

I remember watching that game thinking that 4 years of promise and hype over McIvor's cannon arm came to fruition in about 20 minutes. It was a beautiful thing to watch.

I drove down to that game by myself and bought my ticket from an Aggie. I sat on the 50 yard line about 30 rows up right in the middle of the Aggie blue hairs. Needless to say I was the only Texas fan in sight over there.

I cheered for the Horns and was very respectful and did not have a problem at all. It was still an eerie feeling though.

McIvor was allsome that day.
