Shepard not affected by Gilbert decision

Cypress Ridge (Houston) quarterback Russell Shepard said Friday that he was still very interested in Texas.

The five-star quarterback prospect has been asked that question time and again since another five-star quarterback, Lake Travis’ Garrett Gilbert, committed to the Longhorns on Thursday.

“Look, anywhere you go you’re going to have competition,” Shepard said. “Right now my top schools are Florida, LSU, Texas and Michigan. You don’t think Florida has talent at quarterback? They signed a bunch of big-time prospects last year. And LSU? And Michigan might get Terrelle Pryor. None of that changes things. You can’t be afraid of competition.”

I've seen the kid play the past few seasons and he has a long way to go before he is a solid passer.

He can be trained to be a better passer, but a lot of what Shepard does, you can't train. It's not fair to compare him to Vince, but he has some of the same qualities...and would fit in with next year's class quite nicely. I think Mack offers him at the breakfast table.

Granted I'm not one who has watched a lot of film of recruits EVER, but what I've seen him do, OMG HOLY ****!!!! I don't care if he can't throw the ball a lick, I WANT THAT KID HERE!! If he want's to play QB..fine, if he wants to play kicker, whatever, I REALLY hope we land this kid.
