Shawn Williams

He says he is making a decision either this week or next. I know he's been a Texas lean for a while, but I had always read on this board that you guys might not offer him.

Where do you stand with Williams now?

I'll be shocked if he commits somewhere other than Texas.

At this point, Texas will have 4 spots available for the '09 class, if they decide to fill them all (assuming Damion James goes pro, which is a pretty safe assumption, IMO). I'm expecting a class of Jordan Hamilton, Avery Bradley, and Shawn Williams...although this is basketball recruiting, so anything can happen.

All three are pretty heavy Texas leans, but obviously none of them have committed yet, much less signed.

If that class transpires, I'll expect Texas to compete for a national championship, assuming the rest of the roster stays intact.

I saw Williams at Baylor's Elite Camp and wasn't all that impressed. He gets to the rim and finishes well, but I was expecting more. John Wall was just heads and shoulders above everyone else there, so most of my attention was focused on him...of course, at the time, I didn't think Baylor had as good a shot to land him as they do now.

Hamilton is the real deal, he can take over a game just like Kevin did, but may not rebound like kevin did. A notch below kevin but a real elite talent.
Avery is a top 5 combo guard, a notch below Boyton and Brandon Knight, Wall. All are great talents and all can take over a game.
Avery is playing great ball right now. Hamilton and Avery have a great upside, IMO we have not seen their best game.
Williams would add depth to the #3 slot that we need .

i'm hearing williams to texas ... looking for link...

I've wanted this kid to play for us since I first saw him play for our varsity in 9th grade. Shawn and teammate Roger Franklin are only the second and third kids to make our varsity as freshmen. That's an accomplishment at Duncanville. I would love to see Roger offered as well. He has some strong skill sets and has improved his game every year.

You will love the following things about Shawn:

He is good enough offensively to be your leading scorer on any given night.

He has a great attitude. He can contribute as a role player when he can't get his game going.

He has the look of a solid three-year contributer. No one and done here.

He is a great kid through and through. Sources very close to the team tell me that he and Franklin are class acts.

ALERT, ALERT, ALERT!: We have another kid that has emerged as a top flight D1 recruit: keep an eye on Julian Washburn, a 6 7 small forward. Washburn is a class of 2010 recruit. He is the son of former NC ST star Chris Washburn. However, he idolizes Kevin Durant and has already indicated a heavy preference for the Longhorns.

Washburn might be flying under the radar for some. He was a standout freshman at Dallas Kimball and transfered to Duncanville. I believe he sat out last year.

Duncanville foes will have to line up against a line up that features three bonafide, high D1 recruits this season: 6 7 Shawn Williams, 6 7 Julian Washburn, and 6 6 Roger Franklin.

I would love to make this a Texas troika by landing Roger to go with Shawn and capping things off with Washburn next year.

Longhorn fans get ready for an amazing run if we get these kids. Texas won a national title in baseball with South Dallas county talent up the gut in the lineup. Justin Simmons (Duncanville), Tim Moss (Lancaster), and Brandon Fahey (Duncanville, Orioles) couldn't be denied. Neither will Shawn, Roger, and Julian.

I know we have a national reach in recruiting and we can afford to wait. But going to the area that has produced Chris Bosh, Slim Shady Arthur, etc. is also a damn strong move, especially if you don't have to risk waiting too long and losing out.

See you guys in Austin in March.

Thanks for the insight always good to have info from someone that seen the kid play, and attitude.
How is his handle and 3 point range. He will provide some insurance if Hamilton goes somewhere else.
Hamilton and Williams at the 3 spot would be great for several years to come. Hamilton is still a heavy lean for Texas but you never know until the kids pull the trigger and commit .

I also agree that UT should go after the 1-3 kids in Texas on a yearly basis and not wait for the AAU Players that want to drag the process until April,May .

Sky:

Shawn can light it up from the 3-pt arc and in. He can score inside with his back to the bucket or facing the bucket. He has a nice mid-range game to top things off. He is an excellent shooter from all over the floor. His numbers are nice but not eye popping because he plays on a loaded team that is very balanced. Shawn might net 20-30 one game and 6-12 the next. That's because someone else is dropping their shot. Again, this kid is selfless. He doesn't need the limelight or the glory. My hunch is that Barnes might have to tell him to look for his shot before he tells him to pass the ball more.

Shawn's handle is solid. He won't dribble through a press but he has enough handle to create his shot. He also passes the ball well.

Bottom Line: Shawn is a talented kid who will impress you as a person, too.

We are still leading I believe for Hamilton and Avery, thought I read somewhere the coaching staff was considering going after a 4th player but that might have to do with J'Covan Brown situation or the thought that Damion is gone after this year. Not really sure though.

realtexmex,

Washburn will be coming off the bench, P Jones will be anchoring the middle for Dunc (Baylor pledge).

I thought Franklin was enamored with going out of state? I would love to see BU get in on this kid, we could use a gamer/leader like him.

Roger Franklin has given a pledge to Oklahoma State. Duncanville will start two Baylor commits, one Texas commit, one Arizona commit, and one Okie State pledge. Not a bad little lineup.

Sorry about the late response. Here's what I have on the kids. Shawn Williams and Roger Franklin grew up in and attended Duncanville schools from the get go. Dowell, Sterns, and Washburn grew up in Duncanville but attended other schools. They transfered back to Duncanville after they reached high school. Jones attended Dallas Carter and transfered to Duncanville. I do not know if he grew up in Duncanville but attended Carter, or if he moved in later.

I would be concerned if these kids all moved to Duncanville for high school. It appears it was the other way around.

BTW Lute Olson pulled Reger Dowell's offer after a kid higher on the totem pole announced for Arizona. This is bad for Olson. He better not step foot in D'ville if he is smart.

We look like this on paper, folks:

Perry Jones, 6 10, Jr, Baylor commit: the HC says he is the best athlete he has ever coached on the hoops team. Jones hasn't played basketball very long either.

Julian Washburn, 6 8, Jr, Open: Texas is a favorite and the Horns may be after him.

Shawn Williams, 6 7, Sr, Texas commit: Silky, slim shooter. Great kid that we will like.

Roger Franklin, 6 6, Sr, Okie St commit: Best body on the team and an athlete. Another great kid.

Reger Dowell, 6 1, Sr, Open: Turned down Alabama to accept Arizona offer. Now looking for a home. Will undoubtedly get a nice D1 ship.

Jamison Sterns, 6 2 - 6 3, Baylor: Never saw a shot he didn't like. Will crank em up from anywhere.

Tiffany Jackson is another kid that grew up in Duncanville but attended school outside of the district before returning to play for the Panthers.

I expect to open the season as USA Today's #1 team in the nation. If so, it will be tough to hold on to the ranking. We're set to play in a ridiculous number of top out of state tournaments, highlighted by a trip to Jersey to possibly play against national power St. Benedict's.
