Anyone ever been to Sharm? I'm thinking about a 7-8 trip to Egypt with 3 days in Cairo and the rest of the trip on the Red Sea, probably Sharm.

Haven't been there, but I was in Dahab for a few days in 1994. Very nice snorkeling. Booze was very hard to come by, weed was smoked everywhere, even openly by shopkeepers. I got the worst case of food poisoning I've ever had from some spaghetti I got there.

It is a really great diving area and is a ME version of Cozumel.
It can be dangerous right now for both British and American tourists. Several kidnappings and it was bombed pretty thoroughly twice in the last two years.
My recommendation- keep flying to UAE and jump on a flight to the Maldives from there.

We're saving the Maldives for next year. Due to the length of the flight, I want to stay more than a week. I also want to stay at one of the Four Seasons resorts in the Maldives, so I need to put away a bit more cash first.

I'm based in the UK so we're pretty flexible on this trip. I want at least 4 days on a beach. Mauritius is another place we're looking into.
