Shame on the Big12!

I was rewatching one of the baseball games from Closet Station this past weekend, and I saw a commercial for the Big12. Now, usually I mute the ads during a live broadcast or go to the kitchen or bathroom, so I've never really paid attention to this ad. But apparently the conference is propagating a myth that the other 11 member institutions of the Big12 actually produce officers for the US military!

Surely everyone knows that aggy is the only school that has a program wherein college students can be trained as military officers while earning valuable college credit.

Someone better get on the horn and straighten out the Big12 before aggy stages a boycott of the whole conference!!

I have a field named for me

There is nothing...and I mean nothing else that puts a spur in my craw than hearing some freaking corps dork who never went in the military talk military smack, especially when they like to tell their moronic tea story. As a veteran and a Texas Ex who made TWO combat deployments to Iraq, I get offended and get this close to busting their lip.

Isn't it true that Aggies see more actual combat...? Aren't they the first ones through the mine fields...?

If the enemy ever ties them down naked out in a quad and pours buckets of water on their privates from a second story window, they will be well prepared.

I will make fun of aggy and fake army at any opportunity I get, but I am a pilot in the AF, and next to the Academy grads, I run into more aggy grads than any other school. I hate to give them any sort of credit, but some fake army actually turns out to be real.

I'd be willing to bet there are more Citadel grads who go into the military each year than a decade worth of Fake Army aggys. In fact, I wouldn't be suprised if a majority of Ags in the military are regular Ags rather than Fake Army.

2000, there's plenty of us that have your back anytime you want to physically educate any product of the kiddie corps. Those guys could find a way to screw up k.p.

Don't get me started. aggy must not be able to swim or simply hates water because I ran into one (1) aggy my entire four years in the USN.

And for the record, that was between '86-90 a.k.a. aggy hey days of all things supreme.

aggy and the corp... What I really want to say would probably get me suspended so...

The first reaction I saw from aggy when that commercial first started airing was that they were super pissed over their "representative" being a staff sergeant while other schools (including Texas) had higher-ranking officers. They truly believed that because of their "military history," their rep should've been the highest ranking person shown. Can you believe aggy?

I noticed that, too, bassale, and I laughed. Am I right in thinking that the woman who is the aggy SSgt must not have served in the Corps -- if she'd been in the Corps, she'd go in with a commission, right?

Actually, I dont think thats 100% correct. Just because you are in the corp, that does not qualify you as an officer after graduation. I believe you have to be in the ROTC program. If not, you have to apply to OCS just like every other graduate from any college or university. The corp IS NOT military training. aggy IS NOT a military school. The corp is nothing more than a uniformed fraternity/soroity.

You're right. Cadets in the corps are required to be in an ROTC program during their freshman and sophomore years, but if they don't intend to go into the military, they can opt out of ROTC during their junior and senior years, and then it's basically just a uniformed frat for them. Only about 40% of them end up becoming contracted cadets who are commissioned when they graduate.

Most of them drop ROTC as soon as they are allowed to, which is why I always laugh when some aggy talks about how many officers the corps sends to the military. The corps doesn't send anyone to the military. The ROTC programs do.
