It's obvious why the Ivy League schools wanted him. Guy is very intelligent and has a very confident air, in a sometimes tough environment, for some. Hope he can install that kind of thinking into his players, when it comes to basketball, in tough situations.

Speaking of tough situations, it's time for me to head to baseball and see if Texas can turn things around, in the most important series to date.

If the performance of the team reflects his press conference, the future looks damn good for Texas Basketball. I'm pleased Patterson identified Smart as his 1st choice and went after him and got him.
 
Recorded the presser and watched tonite...dang! Coach Smart is impressive!!! We got us a good'un here boys and girls!! Can't wait to see how the team plays next year.
 
Smart was fantastic (hmmm should Fantastic be our next coaching hire?) at press conference. Paraphrasing some of the comments that caught my attention:

1)He has a style but he does adjust for the personnel he has.
2)Success and deep runs...you have to have shooters, you have to recruit shooters, you need to spread the floor to make it hard for opposing defenses............................This was one of my top criticisms about Barnes offenses for the last 5+ years.
3)Exciting brand of basketball, aggressive, fast paced, balanced for both offense and defense.
4)Phenomenal potential, recruiting opportunity, brand recognition, championship potential at UT.... one of few schools that could have lured him away from VCU
5)others have quotes above about teamwork, energy giving,....he is obviously very charismatic, and I think he will be fantastic recruiter and face of the program

Billy Donovan was mentioned as a mentor and clearly he has embraced the possibility of championship basketball at a football school with Florida as the example. I believe Coach Smart believes, now if we can get Htown to believe we are set (LOL).
 
There will be a renewed enthusiasm for the program that's been missing for around 5 years. A energized arena atmosphere helps and we need to bring it starting this coming season.

Agree. We should expect to see some excitement around this program. I think Coach Smart is going to make it entertaining.
