SF station airs racist plane crash gaffe

While not racist it reminds me of something a guy named, The Greaseman, did on a D.C. rock station. It was one year after the air Miami plane crashed into the 14th Street Bridge in D.C. and depositing people into the waters of the Potomac River. It might have been freezing, I forget.

On the anniversary he called Air Miami on the air and asked how much it cost for a ticket from Miami to the 14th Street Bridge.

Then another year, regarding Martin Luther King day he said something like, "May as well kill 4 more and get a whole week off". That did not go over well especially in D.C.

I used to anchor in Austin way back when they just started using Teleprompters...I really didn't like them as you tended to start just reading what was scrolling by, whereas with the "stack of copy"- type you had to read and absorb what you were telling people.

I think there is a fair chance the anchor didn't even realize what she was reading....hence her effort to pronounce the eff word as Fuke.

Whoever at the station is responsible must have assumed they would be found out. Perhaps they were looking for a career change.

"I'm Ron Burgundy?"

That's funny. It reminds me of a Rowan and Martin or Abbott and Costello routine. This country needs to loosen up a little and laugh. Everything isn't racism.

I got to enjoy a hearty laugh at this when I heard it on the radio Saturday. At the time, I thought the whole news story was made up as part of the prank, so I didn't have to feel guilty at all.

Have to admit, when I did then learn that real people had died in the crash, it made me not want to spread the story with quite all that knee slapping.

It's not "racist," though, to my thinking.
