Several Great Concerts Coming Up

Over the next two months, several great bands are coming to Austin. Here are the ones that I could think of off the top of my head.

1/30 The Donnas and OK Go- Emos- Never seen either one of these bands in concert, but the new CD's from both bands are good. As a bonus, three of the four members of the Donnas are really good looking.

2/1 The Burden Brothers- Lucy's on the Square (San Marcos)- Not actually in Austin, but still pretty close. They are a new group headed by Todd Lewis, former lead singer of the Toadies. Don't know much about them but the songs I have heard are good.

2/11 and 2/12 Slobberbone w/ Cheap Trick- Emos- Slobberbone is an alt-country band from Denton, TX. They are similar to the Old 97's, but are a little more rock and roll. Haven't heard their newest CD, Slippage, but their previous three releases are all very good. I saw them in concert last year and it was a great show.

2/23 Something Corporate- Emos- These guys were just in town with NFG at the beginning of December. Only problem was they only played 7 or 8 songs. This time they are headlining their own tour. Their album, "Leaving Through The Window" was one of the best albums of 2002 in my opinion. If you go see them, I guarantee that you will come away saying that it was one of the best shows you have ever seen.

Please post any other concerts that you may know about.

. (they are playing two nights)
i am going to the Donnas w/ Ok Go as well. should be awesome!
some other ones i will be attending and recommend..
- Young Heart Attack @ Beerland .. right after the donnas / ok go early show Jan 30th. Young Heart Attack just straight up kicks ***. (members of sixteen deluxe, fastball, etc)
- Trail of Dead w/ Slowreader, Knife in the water, etc. there are more bands playing, i love those 3. slowreader is the side project of Gabe/Rory from the impossibles. Jan 31st @ Emo's
- Trail of Dead w/ Young Heart Attack, Recover, etc. Recover has their moments. Feb 1st @ Emo's. oh of course, trail of dead rules.
- Ben Kweller w/ Centro-matic Feb 28th @ Emo's. Former Radish Frontman.
- i will miss this 'cause of Cheap Trick, but All American Rejects @ the Backroom Feb 11. w/ Riddlin' Kids & Homegrown.

should be a good month!

oh, and i've seen the Burden Bros numerous times, if you like the Toadies, you will prolly like em. they kick ***. oh yeah, Baboon too.

3 of the 4 Donnas are not hot. The only reason anyone pays attention to them is because they are a girl rock band. They don't sound bad, mind you, they're just not hot

if they were walking down the street and weren't in a band, most people wouldn't even classify them as average

I saw the Toadies in their last concert ever (at least that is what they said) on the 30th of December. I had already seen them 6 or 7 times before, but I really was looking forward to seeing them again. Unfortunently, they really sucked. They appeared to just be going through the motions up there. Their timing was also off, but I guess that can be expected since they had a new bass player (the guy from Baboon), and because they had been broken up for a year and a half. However, the Old 97's concert I went to two nights earlier was great. They played for two hours straight and were great.

And about the Slobberbone concert, it makes more sense that Cheap Trick would be headlining. I saw the concert advertised somewhere and it said Slobberbone w/ Cheap Trick. I just took that to mean they were headlining. Oh well.

i think 3 of the 4 donnas are hot! i've had a crush on the lead singer forever. i have seen em 3 times, one time i ran into the singer donna in the crowd at emo's, and all i could muster up was "have a good show". horrible effort!
bagger, i went to the Toadies show here in austin on the 27th of Dec, i thought it was pretty bad ***. maybe it was all the Tecates!!

Yeah, but you still drink on the job. It's a little different when you have a "real" job.

And Bill Walton is greatness. Throw it down big man!
