Serena Williams foot fault

Williams got out played and she showed her *** at the end. What else is new. Too bad it had to end that way but I think she was going to lose anyway. It is hard to say whether it was a foot fault but it was called. To say what she said to the lines person she got what she deserved. Default!

serena's behavior is unacceptable and she was penalized appropriately. more shocking is that a foot fault was called at that point in a grand slam semi; this is something that almost everyone, including those who have been the most critical of serena's reaction, agree upon. foot faults are rarely called and only when the infraction is blatant. in this instance the fault was far from obvious and may not have happened at all; there is almost universal consensus that making that call in that situation was a terrible mistake. serena should have handled herself differently but given how emotional she is, i can't say her behavior came as a shock to me. inappropriate and unfortunate, yes, but surprising...absolutely not. i think i am most disappointed because serena is the best player of her generation, and by a wide margin; this type of behavior is beneath her, or should be anyway. of course, it also pales in comparison to outbursts and prior incidents involving a vast number of professionals over the years, including mcenroe, safin, hingis etc etc. and in serena's case at least the behavior isn't habitual; for the most part she and sister venus have been great champions and terrific ambassadors for the sport. and most importantly they are the only reason american women's tennis has remained the dominant force in the sport for the past decade.

The chair ump should have gotten involved sooner. From what I saw nobody stepped in as Serena was going on on hte line judge. Serena went after her a 2nd time. Then finally the line judge has to get up and go over to the chair to plead her case. If the chair ump had given Serena warning initially this may not have happened.

Serena had no excuse for her behavior. I was disappointed b/c I very much like her as a person from what I have seen.

Calling a bordeline foot fault to put the match at match point was more shocking than the player telling the line judge how she was going "shove this ball . . ." (I couldn't tell if it was down her throat or up her ***.) Somebody's Youtube video of this thing alleges Williams was callilng the line judge a "fat, ugly gook" and how she was going to "hunt you [the judge] down.

Not cool.

Probably a bad call, but the behavior was inexcusable.

It was a terrible call. It wasnt close and every video replay since has shown it to be wrong.

That said you just cant do what she did. That kind of behavior isnt acceptable even if the call is tghe worst in the history of the sport you cant threaten to put a tennis ball down her f****** throat, period the end. Serena was going to lose anyway but what a terrible way to do it and this will be remembered by officials, dont think every close call from here on out will be leaning the other way.

mandingo - what if the ref isn't consistent with it? I would say if Kobe had traveled all game, wasn't called for it, but then WAS called during a last shot situation (when it was questionable and in no way a sure fire call to make), then i think the ref would be in the wrong.

and her reaction was totally uncalled for, I jut wish it had happened in England so we could read what the London papers would say about it on their soil!

The only way that was a foot fault was if her toe was on the line when she began her serve - otherwise it was not a foot fault. Based on the angle of the replay I saw I could not tell whether her toe was on the line to start her serve or not.

I'm all for calling foot faults at any point in a match if indeed there is a foot fault. Serena’s behavior after the call is totally inexcusable. She deserved the point penalty regardless of whether it was on match point or not.

Foot faults are rarely seen in professional tournaments with all the line judges etc. On the other hand, in recreational matches / tournaments foot faults continue to be a major problem. It’s ridiculous how far some players will step into the court before they hit their serve. And it’s not just an occasional occurrence – they will do it on every serve. For the most part I just draw it to their attention in hopes that they will stop. Most try to stop doing it for a while but then later they just go right back to it. On a few occasions though I have had the offending player commit even more egregious foot faults after I say something. They then try to make me out as the bad guy because when they play with their friends nobody bothers with foot faults. On a few occasions I have had to get someone to call the line because the other player continued to step about a foot into the court on every serve. It’s ridiculous – it’s cheating just as much as making a bad line call.

Suspendable offense?? Please, John McEnroe pretty much based his career off of **** like this.

i dont know, ive played and followed tennis a for most of my life, ive sene lots of antics by a lot of players, Nastasi was probably the worst. McEnroe was famous for his outbursts but if you look at them, they are pretty tame, i think the worst he ever did was call someone a stupid idiot and someone a moron...He never threatened to shove a ******* ball down someones throat. That is the worst thing I have ever heard on a tennis court by a player at the professional level. Now some of the junior players today are punks but this is the worst by far ive heard by a lady on the tour and may be the worst of any man at a stage like this...shes trash, that is clear.

Conors called a linesman "an abortion" a few times in a rant back in the early '90s when he was making an incredible run through the tournament long after he should have been retired. Or should I say, he said:

"You were an ABORTION! You were an ABORTION!" ...blah-blah-blah about the call... "You were an ABORTION!"

I thought he was a worthless **** at that point and hoped he would lose, but he didn't lose that match. (I think it was against Aaron Krickstein, but I'm not positive.) The crowd obviously didn't care. I can't remember if he was fined. But he definitely didn't threaten the line judge.

Serena had already (violently) broken a racquet (racket) during the match and had received her "warning". The next offense had to be a one point deduction. She just chose to be a c**t at the wrong time. Not that it mattered, she was going to lose anyway. Clijsters was/is just better than her right now.

And then Clijsters proved to be better than the cute Danish girl with a Polish (?) last name. The first set was downright ugly if you like players winning their serve, but Clijsters settled down (even if she still had plenty of unforced errors) and proved that she is the best women's player in the game... this month.

F! Serena. She was fined $500 for the racquet incident and $10,000 for her outburst.

that is pretty shocking language, napoleon. i think everyone agrees serena was out of line and should have been fined, but she is a great champion and has done more for american tennis than other other player, male or female, for the past 20 years. and as i said earlier she certainly hasn't made a habit of these kinds of outbursts during her career, unlike many others. by all accounts she is a genuinely nice person who behaved very badly in this one instance. that hardly merits calling her a c*** or using the 'f' word.

Calling that beast a "she" is laughable. I would have been scared, too, if I was the person that called the foot fault.

Serena Williams would scare, shitless, half the QBs in the NFL.

actually, the willliams sisters and her dad have never been liked on the tour.

She's just a big bully. Venus I like much more. I dont really hate Serena, but she just rubbs me the wrong way and after seeing what she did the other day, no amount of apologies can make me forget what I saw. Big bully.
