Senator Richard Black

The TL;DR version is basically "Assad is actually a decent guy and we're supporting terrorists against him."

The more I read about Syria the more I think we're on the wrong side and for bad reasons. I don't necessarily buy the idea that Assad is a choir boy, but I don't think he's the devil he's made out to be. I certainly don't think his departure from power should be a prerequisite for any sort of cooperation with Russia in destroying ISIS. Instead ISIS should be treated at the primary enemy, and we should work jointly with Russia in destroying them. After that's over and after we relocate Syrian refugees back to their homes, then we can haggle with Putin over what a post-war Syria should look like.

Other than his status as a concerned citizen, it's a little surprising that a state senator show interest in Syria. Most state legislators wouldn't give a crap, so good for him.
