Selling on Ebay 101

I have a lot of things I want to sell through Ebay -- some china, some audio gear, etc. -- but I haven't a clue as to how I might avoid scams, etc. Any tips?

Only deal with people with very high % of positive feedback, and never with a new ebay member. Do not agree to ship anything to another country, and do not make ANY transactions outside of ebay. If it sounds weird/too good to be true/a little off/foreign, it probably is. Only take payment via paypal.

Does PayPal offer any protection? Can I delay shipping until payment has cleared?

It feels a little weird to discriminate against new members when I am exactly the same thing.

I am going to try selling some of the mass of crap (to me) stuff in my garage that I need to get rid of on Ebay. What do you need past a paypal account, Ebay account and a digital camera?

Seems like higher fixed shipping on smaller ticket items with no minimum reserve is a norm from what I have observed. I am guessing the reserve effects the fees? I assume you also pay a listing fee whether or not the product sells?

Anyone have a good how to site outside of Ebay for tips on selling?

If I remember correctly, a reserve price does not affect the listing fee. "Buy it now" does cost extra, though.

you might try craigslist first...easy to sign up and its free.

Most of the items I'm looking to sell would benefit from a larger market than Austin. They're also small enough to ship on the cheap.
