Selling my old iphone

I'd like to sell my old iphone on ebay (3G 16 GB).

1) How do I avoid a scam? When I look through the completed listings for phones that sold some of them must be bogus. I mean, I see phones going for $200 or so and then the exact same phone for $2,000. What am I missing?

2) Should I unlock it first?

3) I will load the latest update and restore factory settings. Should I also remove my old SIM card?

I just did this last week with an 8GB 3g ($150) and a 16GB 3GS ($250) on craigslist in Houston. I posted what I wanted for each and had multiple buyers and was at starbucks finishing the transaction within an hour and a half.

1) Put the add on craigslist yourself and meet them in a public place, they give you cash how are you going to get scammed? remember if it seems to good to be true, it probably is. You aren't going to get $2,000 you should have no problem getting $200.

2) you can unlock it and you might get a little extra for doing so but it isn't necessary.

3) Definitely wipe the memory and reset factory seetings and update to the latest OS and remove SIM card. Removing sim card isn't absolutely necessary by why take a chance.
