Selling meat out of a truck: scam?

Today while I was at work a dude stopped at my house and asked my lady if she wanted to buy about $250 of meat. He gave her the "they gave me too much this morning and I'm just trying to sell it," which means he used to sell speakers out of a van.

I didn't see the meat, and for all I know it was prime beef. However, I am more inclined to believe it was low-grade dog food.

Anyone have experience with this? I have trouble believing most people would buy meat out of a truck from a total stranger.

scam. these morons tried to sell their crap at a bar/restaurant I worked at on Greenville. Our head chef laughed at them.

A couple years ago there were these guys that set up selling shrimp at a gas station that got torn down on Guadalupe, out of a cooler in the back of their car. They were there for a few days. I remember the price on their sign kept going down a little each day as the shrimp got funkier

it isn't a "scam" in the sense the meat is bad. I think the meat is graded, but it isn't "cheap" as they claim, nor is it "extra".

i know some guys who did that year's ago. Its just classic door-to-door selling.

This has been going on for years. When I was in grad school in the mid-90s, I was living in Round Rock with a couple of roommates, and we actually bought some. None of us got sick, but it was disgusting. It was mostly pitifully thin cuts that had the texture of papier-mache.

Over 10 years ago, someone stole a section of checks out of a box in my mailbox. They then went on a spending spree. One of the things the guy bought was a bunch of meat from some guy in a truck.

When I filed the police report and affadavit with the meat company, the manager told me that the driver was going to be fired. He said his drivers were supposed to sell to their standard customers (not sure who they would be, I didn't bother to ask) but that some drivers would sell the stuff off the back of the truck and pocket the money. He said they generally used the same speech that the speaker guys used. Problem was, this poor bastard accept a stolen check.

so the speaker truck enterprise has moved on to meat? haven't had this one come up yet.

hell, i'd probably buy some.

i worked in a steakhouse that only sold usda prime beef. so, when these guys in their truck approached me in the middle of a neighborhood, i managed to talk my way over their great steaks.

where are you?

a tractor trailer full of beef that had tested positive for e. coli was stolen in the DFW area on Dec. 28.
