Selling a house - Relocation

I might be in a situation in the next couple of months where I move from Houston to St. Louis for the job. My company is taking its sweet time in figuring out if that's what they want to do, so I am losing time every day for selling my house, buying one in StL, all before kids go back to school in late August.
The last time I was in this situation it took about two weeks from the time the company gave me a green light for the relo to when my house was listed on MLS. If I were expecting that green light in in a week or two, then those two weeks are no big deal. If i get the green light in May then those two weeks are very valuable to me (literally) in maximizing the value of my house in Houston.

Part of the relo package is the company will pick up the cost of selling my house, so I definately will use a realtor. However, we are not going to formally interview realtors until we get the green light b/c we don't know if the company will have a list of preferred agencies they want us to use, and we don't want to create anxiety with the kids b/c we may not move.

If we get the green light for the relocation I want to immediately put a "For Sell" sign in my year along with a flier dscribing the house. A couple of weeks later I'll let the realtor take over with their sign/website.
For the pricing portion I was going to explain that the house will officially be listed on Date X. We live on a well traveled street in a large neighborhood, and our house is one of the larger ones in the neighborhood. Point being is it wouldn't surprise us at all if the buyer came from within the neighborhood.

I think this plan gets us a head start we are going to need. Am I missing anything?

I lived in StL for a summer while on my internship. I really liked it. Great place to raise a family if you have one. Not sure where your office will be but my fav neighborhods:

Clayton and Ladue: bluebloods think River Oaks or Highland Park
Webster groves/Krikwood: Really cool post war nieghborhood with lots of old houses and a very small town feel. Lots of young families moving in
University City: close to the "Loop" which is a small strip of bars and restaurants near Washington University, but U City also abuts a rough part of town north of Delmar.

Chesterfield/Creve Coeur: inner suburb and about as far out as I would live. Anything farther and the traffic is going to be murder.
St Charles: newer suburb, bad traffic.
South StL. A lot of people say this is on the rise, but still much like south austin of the 1980s. Bubbaland, midwesternstyle.

GB - thanks for the StL info.

Same situation as a couple of weeks ago - just waiting for work to come up with something and doing a lot of spring cleaning around the house.

Since my last post I thought MySpace would be the easiest venue to use. Appreciate anyone's comments.

I saw on the news yesterday that some house swapping sites are becoming popular due to the downturn in the market. Might be worth a look.
