...for a huge rivalry game.

Actually, 3,500+ officially empty by the announced attendance, but a lot more than that in reality, based on reports I'm reading.

Man, talk about bandwagon fans. The rats are literally jumping off the ship, and they didn't even get a three hour tour.

Just a pet peeve of mine, but the rats are figuratively--not literally--jumping off the ship. There are no literal rats, and there is no ship.

But you're right--they're no more a basketball school than they are a baseball/golf/tennis/academic school. They're really little more than a cult with a football team; kind of akin to the Tom Cruise University Fightin' Xenus.

But what if the word "literally" is being used figuratively?

Wake up guys.

Tech is not a rival. They only have room for one rival. And they have restablished themselves as t.u.'s rival by winning 2 football games this decade and going .500 against us in basketball for a few years. Not to mention the 1 sweet 16 in a row.

to first clean the mote from our own eye;

i took my sons (Sr & Fr in HS) to the joklahoma game last Satruday (something of a rivalry game). they both noted how many empty seats there were (3,000 ish) & that everybody except the students (& us) were sitting on their hands. they couldn't help but notice that about 1/4+ of the people in the bldg exited with about 4:00 left in the game. i pointed out, in our defense, that it was an ***-kicking but noted to myself that their observations were dead right. it kinda stung when, a couple of days later, my oldest stated that UT fans aren't all that.

fortunately, we all had a great time & the boys loved everything else about the game, the team, UT

That was basically where I was coming from. By and large, people who purchase basketball tickets in the state of Texas do not do so for the same reasons they buy football tickets.

When they go to a basketball game, they want to be entertained. That's still the way it is. I think it's getting better, though.

I have observed the same thing at FEC this season, and it's maddening.

I took my kids to see the Texas-CU game several weeks ago. The game was officially announced as a sellout, but there were tons of empty seats in the arena. WTF? I know the ticket brokers and scalpers always get their cut, but that was ridiculous. No wonder our home crowd sucks sometimes. They really need to find a way to reform the seating policy at FEC somehow.

1sahorn,

I was just glad I didn't sit at all for the Kansas or A&M games.

I was disappointed in the OU game as well, but not terribly so. I was glad for the complete and utter asskicking, so I had that going for me.

You guys may have thousands of empty seats for games vs rivals, noise levels acceptable for calculus studies, late arriving crowds...but you know what?

You don't boo.

And that makes Texas Fans look ELITE.
