Seed for bermuda grass?

I have bermuda tif 419 grass that came in as sod 1.5 years ago. Most of it is doing good but there are a few areas that is thinner than others due to shade, some not due to that.

Does it make sense to add some seed in these areas? Where can I get bermuda tif 419 seed anyway?

I don't think the seed will germinate as it will be competing with well established grass for resources.

Seedland.com has bermuda tiff seeds, not sure about the 419 varietal though.

You can overseed just fine. Call Chris Winslow at It's About Thyme in Manchaca. He carries bulk Bermuda seed.

DieUCLA is correct in that it likely won't even germinate due to the shade of the established grass. But even if it does, it is going to struggle to grow well in the shade (I assume from a tree), which sounds like what is happening to your existing sod. If it is big problem, you might consider switching to zoysia.

I seeded 1.5 weeks ago and the seeds are now starting to come in. I was worried for a while b/c we hit that little cold spell but it seems the seeds are doing fine now. I would seed asap though to give your seeds plenty of time to establish before it gets cold.

I haven't seen any bermuda sod, just st augustine and zyosia. My seeding has gone ok (tip: water the heck out of it), but there are some bare spots that I would spot with sod if I could find some in Austin. Ideas?
