Are you ******* kidding me?

They will "experiment" during the SEC Tourney ... 20 second limit between pitches. If pitcher does not deliver in time = ball. If batter is not in box = strike.

**** my life ... the communists have won.

I might boycott baseball if they start doing it in the Big 12
The fun part of baseball is there is no time limit

This could very well be the best thing to ever happen to baseball, and the one thing that saves it.

I rarely watch baseball unless the Longhorns are in the College World Series or the Royals are in the World Series (which basically means I don't watch pro baseball). That might change if the worst part about the sport were to go away.

I've always thought a similar thing would be effective: make the pitcher's mound a fire ant hill. Not only will the pitcher hurry up and throw the damn ball, but he'll actually get off the mound after the pitch and help out on defense.

Baseball is no longer America's Pastime and one of the reasons is its slow pace. It is hard to watch on TV and is hard to watch in person unless you have it in your blood. I love baseball and I am in favor of anything that might increase its popularity.
The other thing baseball has to do to reclaim its place is find a way to entice black players. College baseball is almost lilly white and this is coming from an anglo poster.

The 20-second thing has been in the rulebook for years, but rarely is it enforced. I'm not a fan of using a "shot clock", though. The conference maybe should make it a point of emphasis for the umps and teams that it will be enforced with one of the umps wearing a watch, instead of using an actual clock for all to see.

this will not hold since it is not real baseball.........btw, is there a rule on number of times pitcher attempts pick off??

Bad move. Some pitchers get wild and try to throw balls making a mistake by leaving it over the plate. A 20 second rule could bail them out.

It could also help a pitcher or two, I remember when they tried to slow Kieschnick down when he was in the zone.

I agree with kjgirl that one of baseball's charms is that it is not governed by a clock. It takes it's own time. If you get bored watching baseball, well, then, you might understand the basic concept -- throw the ball, hit the ball, run the bases -- but its nuances are clearly over your head.

It's a chess match out there, and true baseball fans are never bored by it -- we enjoy the thought process between pitches.

Similar to the rule to stop batters from steping out of the batters box after every pitch. " The Giambi rule." It did not last so I'm not sure this idea will catch on either.

Not being that big of a Pro fan, I say it would work in the pro's. But leave college ball alone. It is not like there is a lot of time driven TV involved, at least not till the end.

Does a buzzer go off when time is up? Bizzare.http://forums.hornfans.com/php/wwwthreads/newreply.php?Cat=&Board=baseball&Number=6116380&page=0&view=collapsed&what=showflat&sb=5&o=0&fpart=1&vc=1#

Another idiotic move by the "Great" SEC.

One of the unique things about baseball is that it is NOT governed by a goddamned clock.

One of the best things about the game is that it is a thinking man's (or woman's) game. The combinations and permutations of what can happen when the ball is pitched, and/or hit, are huge.

People who really understand and enjoy the game use that time between pitches to think about all those possibilities and what might happen at every position.

If you've ever played the game, you know that you use that time to think about what you'll do depending whether there are any men on base and what you'll do if the ball is hit in the air, on the ground or as a line drive at you, and what you'll do if it it hit at all other positions. Or what happens if the ball gets by the catcher.

If you're running the bases, you have to think about all those same things.

To enjoy the game to its fullest as a fan, or to play it well, you have to THINK about it -- in between pitches.

That's why aggies seldom are any good at it.

Screw time limits in baseball.
