SEC bias???

A question for those who follow this much more closely than me:

On the ESPN recruiting rankings as of 1:00 EDT, 6 of the top 11 classes and 11 of the top 21 classes come from the SEC. On top of that, two other teams from the southeast that go head-to-head with SEC teams for recruits (Florida State and Clemson) are in the top 3.

There must be some degree of confirmation bias going on here. Once it becomes known that a kid is being recruited by an SEC team, he gets more stars than he might otherwise deserve.

To what extent is this true, and to what extent are SEC recruiting classes better than others? I suspect it's a mixed bag, but I don't have any expertise to back that up?
