Seattle - What to do

So I'm going to Seattle in a couple of weeks for a couple of days. What should i Do, never been to the pacific northwest or even the pacific for that matter. I think we might do a little hiking but what do u guys think.

Is there anywhere I should go that represents some of my favorite bands from there,(hendrix, pearl jam, Alice in Chains, Nirvana...)?

EDIT: Let me say I will be travelling to see my girlfriend so anything couple related would be nice too

Mt. Ranier is one direction and the Olympic Range is the other. You can catch a ferry from Pt. Angeles to Victoria, Canada.

We were on Hurricane Ridge at 6000' one morning, and eating crabs on the beach at Dungeness two hours later.

In Seattle proper, Pike's Place Market and the Space Needle are the usual "tourist" stops.

Have fun.

The Experience Music Project is in the Seattle Center, which is near the Space Needle in downtown.

Check the current exhibits. I think there is a permanent Jimi Hendrix section, as well as some memorabilia from other local bands.

Museum of Flight is bad *** but it might not be very "couple" friendly unless the girlfriend is into planes.

Pike Place Market is a fun touristy thing to do but it will take you maybe an hour or two to browse unless you guys are real shoppers. Worth going down there but don't plan on spending all day. I would really suggest not going on the weekend. It can get really crowded and the weekdays are much easier to get in and out in a decent amount of time.

The Seattle Aquarium is down the hill from Pike Place and right on the water. It's pretty cool and worth it if you like that sort of thing.

Pike Brewery is right up the hill from the Market and you can go try some Seattle beer straight from the tap.

The Space Needle does have a great view but it's not cheap. $16 per person to go up. If the weather sucks, might think about skipping that.

Check the schedule and see if the Mariners are in town. Safeco is a nice stadium right downtown and maybe you can combine the downtown stuff (Pike Place, the Space Needle and a game) all into one day.

One of the nice things about downtown is that all of the things mentioned above (except for the Museum of Flight) are within walking distance of each other if you don't mind doing that. There is parking near all of these places but it's really easy to get from the Space Needle to Pike Place and then Safeco if you don't mind a few hills. Nothing drastic but definitely comfortable shoe territory.

If you're thinking of hiking...

Or this might help. Hiking in and around Rainier is bad *** but accommodations will be hard to come by this late. You can day trip it and you'll have plenty of sunshine. Sunrise is around 5:15 am and sunset at 9:00 pm right now.

Taking a ferry some place can be fun. Even if you only ride over to Bainbridge or Vashon it can be a great way to see Seattle from the water. Keep in mind that the water up here is COLD as compared to the Gulf. You aren't gonna want to swim or play in it. If you feel up to it, Victoria, BC is gorgeous but you'll both need passports. You might not have time to get them if you don't already have one.

Good luck.

I thought the drive up to Mt. St. Helens was just awe-inspiring.

it is a whole day but that type of nature display is not often seen. Imagine driving through an immaculate evergreen forest and the next second, EVERY tree is gone.

have fun, Seattle is great.

Take the ferry up to the San Juan Islands. There are some good campgrounds. Be sure to reserve a spot if you go.

What about the Nightlife? Is downtown the best area for that? Looking for some cool relaxed type of bars, nothing crazy, maybe a cool wine bar

I checked out Capitol Hill and had a good time there one night. Saw a band at Neumos. Capitol Hill is just east of downtown. It's definitely a laid back, grungy area. Bunch of chill bars and restaurants. And there is a cool urban bowling alley/bar in Capitol Hill called the Garage. Very fun.

There is a bad *** wine bar downtown called Purple. It rocked. It was across the street from the W Hotel. Definitely check this out.

And there is a neighborhood called Fremont that is awesome. Very funky and eclectic. Gotta drive there but it is worth it.

Fremont – Bars & Restaurants...and to get a picture of that statue under the overpass.

Pike's Place – Just to see the guys throw the fish and do their little show

Snolquamie Falls, Mt. Raineer, Olympic pen for outdoors stuff.

Where is a good place to watch the Texas/FAU game? Preferably close to Key Arena / Northern downtown area.

I can't think of a single sports bar down that way but that doesn't mean there isn't. Farther south (near Safeco) is the Pyramid Brewhouse. They might put up some college games.

Might try Puget Sound Exes. They might have a meet up somewhere close.

UW plays @ Oregon that day (7 pm kickoff local time) so it might be hard to convince some bar to turn on the Texas game if we have a late start as well.

I found this place LINK located on 6th ave. It looks kind of douchebag-y, but whatever. I just want to catch the first half before walking to Bumpershoot music fest.

thanks for the suggestions Mac and the heads up re: UW/OR

Totally forgot about Fox Sports on 6th. It's not terrible in there. Very touristy due to the location so I doubt they'll be any big watch parties. And they should have access to the Texas game. Whether they'll change the channel is another issue. By foot, that place is around 20-25 minutes from Key Arena and maybe a 5 minute cab ride.
