I'll be in Seattle late July and was looking for some suggestions; been looking around and everything downtown is ******* expensive. I've stayed at the Red Lion downtown before and it was cool. I was looking at the Grand Hyatt but that's like 3 bills a night. any suggestions are appreciated (if you're wondering why im staying downtown, the mrs. has never been so i want to be walking distance to pike market, etc..)

Thanks

I don't know much about the prices, but I work across the street from the Moore, which is about 3 blocks from the market. The Moore also has a theater where they have lots of concerts.
There's also the Westin, twin round towers a couple blocks further.

For el cheapo there's a place on 5th below the monorail rail that looks kind of scary, but it's close to Top Pot donuts.

There are a few hotels just below the market, but the closer to the water you get, I imagine the price goes way up.

Actually, there are a few tiny hotels right around Post Alley, either off 1st Ave, or one of the side streets.

Virginia Inn is just above the market.

we stayed there a couple of years ago. its kitty corner to the new(er) library downtown. can't remember prices, but it wasn't too bad (especially when we booked a flight as well). they also had wine tastings every night, the restaurant downstairs was excellent (much better than most hotel restaurants) and was a great location. the same company has a few other hotels in seattle, i think (boutique hotels). lastly, i remember the staff there said you can also book through them directly and they'll match any cheaper prices you see anywhere else.
