It will be interesting to see how long Pittman can stay on the floor. He has a long way to go on the defensive end - not a very disciplined defender at this point. He may pick up 5 fouls in as many minutes. We're going to need all 30 fouls that our 6 front line players have to give.
You guys think Rick will try to run 'em or bang with his extra bodies? I think possibly a mixture of both. I want to see Atchley and Damion around late in the second half so I hope Chappy. Alexis and Dex get some hits on the twins.
DJ's midrange game will prove to be extremely useful in this game. The freshman DJ would probably drive in recklessly and get stuffed over and over by the twins. Now he can just pull up 10-15 ft and drain a jumper. If they decide to come out on him to contest the short range jumpers, it will open up the paint for Connor/Johnson/James/Pittman to get an easy dunk.
Pittman came in the game against ou and shut Griffin down.
As far as rebounds, Mason should be able to slide in and grab some key rebounds, because James and Atchley are going to draw their bigs out of the paint. If not, they'll be shooting open jumpers. I always hear how certain teams will dominate Texas in the paint, but Texas has held their own. I hope James is agressive off the dribble. They can't guard him either.
Pittman is still trying to figure out how to defend the high / low post exchange, and hasn't mastered defending the post straight up (ie., without leaving his feet, the way Atchley does so well). Like the guy alot. But he's just young, so still some learning to do.
No doubt, but Pittman is still a better post defender than Atchley. He defended Griffin better, and he'll defend any 7 footer better than Atchley. Atchley is not strong enough to keep certain players from getting deep in the paint. And once that happens, it doesn't matter if Atchley leaves his feet or not. I actually like James shot blocking ability. When he leaves his feet, he is under control, and avoids the foul call most of the time. But hopefully both Pittman and Atchley will defend well against Stanford.
Barnes gave Pittman props for coming in and slowing Lopez down. At first Lopez was doing his thing, but when Pittman came in that last time, he shut him down.
A couple of plays during that drought in the second half when he very clearly forced shots against Dex, largely because he couldn't get position in deep like he had been earlier. You're just not gonna move Dex.
