Obamacare birth-control dispute

I never understood how this was about birth control since Hobby Lobby offered 16 different types of birth control.

Here are seven more key quotes from Ginsburg's dissent in Burwell v. Hobby Lobby:

"The exemption sought by Hobby Lobby and Conestoga would…deny legions of women who do not hold their employers' beliefs access to contraceptive coverage"
"Religious organizations exist to foster the interests of persons subscribing to the same religious faith. Not so of for-profit corporations. Workers who sustain the operations of those corporations commonly are not drawn from one religious community."
"Any decision to use contraceptives made by a woman covered under Hobby Lobby's or Conestoga's plan will not be propelled by the Government, it will be the woman's autonomous choice, informed by the physician she consults."
"It bears note in this regard that the cost of an IUD is nearly equivalent to a month's full-time pay for workers earning the minimum wage."
"Would the exemption…extend to employers with religiously grounded objections to blood transfusions (Jehovah's Witnesses); antidepressants (Scientologists); medications derived from pigs, including anesthesia, intravenous fluids, and pills coated with gelatin (certain Muslims, Jews, and Hindus); and vaccinations[?]…Not much help there for the lower courts bound by today's decision."
"Approving some religious claims while deeming others unworthy of accommodation could be 'perceived as favoring one religion over another,' the very 'risk the [Constitution's] Establishment Clause was designed to preclude."
"The court, I fear, has ventured into a minefield."

I bet and hope even you know this isn't true
"The exemption sought by Hobby Lobby and Conestoga would…deny legions of women who do not hold their employers' beliefs access to contraceptive coverage"

Why would the idiot lie about something so easy to check?

a quick call to the major pharmacies and walmart and NOPE, no one denied there . costs range from $7.00 a month

Even Planned parenthood will still give away or at a silly low cost to any poorer female who can use federal welfare funds to pay for them
Hobby Lobby will still offer 16 different types of BC

so WTF is the idiot Ginsburg babbling / lying about?

I think someone said it best earlier on this thread when they said that the court was "shredding the corporate veil". No longer is there any difference between corporations and individuals in any way. I think history will look back on this court as the "activist" court which is rather ironic given the conservative accusations on liberal justices.

The State of Arizona now has a precedent to stand on for their gay bashing law SB 1028.

I think this ultimately works in the favor of the single payer crowd. I believe closely held corporations (about 92% of all corporations) will now be able to test many areas to reduce costs based upon religious beliefs. The slippery slope will lead to more people pushing for single payer.

However, I remain in the camp of most things should be paid for by the individual, including birth control. If the patient has a documented condition treated by birth control and a physician prescribes it, it should be covered. Otherwise, your desire to have sex should be on your own nickel and if you get pregnant (or get someone pregnant) you should be solely financially responsible.

An IUD costs more up front than other forms of contraception, but is not something most people could not save for and pay for themselves. My guess is that most tattoos cost more than the IUD. I know smoking is more expensive. If you want to have sex with IUD as protection, pay for it yourself.

MrD
"but whether or not they should have the right to use that collective morality to disobey duly enacted law. "

Was the paid birth control prescription requirement in the duly elected law passed by Congress?
