Scipio's Texas Preview

I started laughing the second I saw the unicorn.

One other thought while reading that:

Doesn't it seem odd to anyone else that Chris O. is our designated "3rd-down" guy? Seems like a terribly misused resource. Don't you want a guy with open-field quickness, who can do something with a screen pass, a draw, a shovel? Open-field quickness is not Ogbannaya's forte.

I think when God made Jamaal Charles, he paused for a moment and said, "I'm going to make a 3rd-down back!" But last year Jamaal got yanked in exactly those situations. Seems bizarre.

Fico-
Not disrespecting Chris O's talents, but if you look at any "third down" back in the NFL or college, they are smaller and quicker than your every-down guy.

Picking up blitzes is important, but it's not the primary duty of the third down guy. Not only that, I'd be a lot less likely to bring pressure against an offense that has a home-run threat who can catch a little dink-pass behind the linebackers or in the flats.

That article was complete ****, neither insighful nor humorous. If you're looking for a decent analysis, check out Trey McLean on the co-op's site. If you're looking for a good laugh, go fart in a co-worker's face.

In the NFL those smaller quicker guys only make the field if they can prove they can pick up a blitz..... assuming the other two are not as good at blocking and knowing that Chris O has the best hands of any back on the team should be reason enough to put him in on thrid down.

He not be able to pick up 15 on a draw, but as the esteemed Warren Sapp once said, "Can't run the draw on thrid and long Sonia."

This is not to say that Fozzy or Vondrel can't develope into an everydown / 3rd down back it is just reiterating that they have not reached that stage in their developement.

Back in 2000, Scipio Tex referred to something that occurred in the Cotton Bowl as "...our QB getting repeatedly gang-raped 10 yards behind the line of scrimmage."

I've love him ever since.
