Scientology

They started sending stuff to my house a little while back. Not the newbie, "come try this out" stuff, but for the experienced, "I know what this crap is" stuff.

I was flabbergasted to say the least. I can't even fathom where they came up with it. Well, other than from a science fiction author that once said: "I'd like to start a religion. That's where the money is!"

Oh, and "I'm drinking lots of rum and popping pinks and greys" while he was creating scientology.

At least that's what The Link says.

I believe God came down to earth as and walked this earth as a man. I believe he turned water into wine, made the blind see, made the lame walk and raised men from the dead. I also believe that he sacrificed him self on a cross and was dead for 3 days. I believe he rose from the dead. I believe he ascended into heaven.

All crazy stuff to believe.

I'm a Christian

Say you're one of these people in the middle of the jungle in Brazil who've never seen the outside world, planes, cars, tv, etc. Say you've also never been exposed to any type of religion. If someone lays out the talking points of Scientology vs. Christianity you'd probably think they both sound ridiculous.

My primary issue with Scientology is that the religion is fundamentally and at its core an antipsychiatry movement. There are lots of valid criticisms to be made of the current practice of psychiatry, from a health system perspective especially, but the core belief of the scientology movement is denial of the reality of mental illness. THAT is crazy and harmful.

Both of them are ridiculous. One may be more so than the other.

Not to mention that Scientologists carried out what is said to be the largest infiltration of US government (not to mention many other governments around the world) when they attempted to purge any negative records of Scientology. 11 top church officials were sentenced to time in prison for their involvement in Operation Snow White

Scientology's not just all Xenu and Thetans. Check out some of the accounts of people that were in "Sea Org" during the 60's and 70's. Not all fun and games with overboardings or being locked in the chain locker or in bilge tanks.
