scholarship numbers *DELETED*

It has been my observation over the years that with our attrition, we need to start "oversigning" each year. I only hope that some of the 25 we take for sure this year are going to be able to play immediately at WR, OL, LB, and S. Brewer and Overstreet will be #2 and #3 on the chart once they arrive in Austin.

some people have mentioned that #2 might leave after the year. i don't subscribe to that theory. they should end up #3 and #4 qbs.

Here's the commitments by position as of now for 2012 (i'm putting jalen overstreet with the qb's instead of athlete like on the texas rivals page for now):

QB - 2 (c. brewer, j overstreet)
RB - 1 (j. gray)
WR - 2 (t. johnson, c. jones)
TE - 0
OL - 3 (k. estelle, c. riser, c. hughes)
K - 1 (n. jordan)

DT - 3 (m. brown, p. boyette jr., a. norman)
DE - 2 (h. ridgeway, c. bluiett)
LB - 3 (a. de la torre, p. jinkens, t. cole)
DB - 1 (b. echols)
ATH - 1 (o. thomas)

That's 19 commits. I'm assuming we'll take some more DBs and OLs as well as at least one TE.

Who knows what # 2 is going to do... but the rumors are out there! We shall wait & see.

Re: "who knows what #2 will do" it baffles me that a kid who is # 2 would consider saying adieu. (if that is what you're talking about) # 2's are vital to every team. Depth, competition to push # 1, etc, etc.

And besides, # 2 sometimes becomes # 1.

We need # 2's. We love # 2's.

There have been unconfirmed rumors that #2's father has been like a helicopter dad and thinks he should be #1.

Some of the numbers may go up because of the overhaul of the staff. Some of the holdovers from last year's team may not be happy being passed by Freshmen and Sophomores and may transfer. Plus next years incoming class is already sick and they're not done yet.

Question: Is UT the only school in the world, that, as soon as a starting QB is named, all others look to transfer? It just boggles the mind.

It almost seems like if you have a clear cut #1, then the younger guys don't mind waiting their turn. But if it's a jump ball for the #1, then whoever doesn't get it thinks there must be greener pasture elsewhere.

Speedway, I get the same numbers.... 65 on scholarship after this year leaving 20 spots open. 19 spots are verbally committed at this time.

A couple uncertainties confuse the issue somewhat. Does Blaine Irby come back for a Medical Waiver season - I hope he does? What does Vaccaro do? Will he go pro as has been mentioned by some? Also, I was not clear on the status of Patrick Nkwopara. I am not sure if he is still a counter on the 85 scholarship limit. I don't think he is.

Regarding TEs, after this season, we should have:
Irby for 1 Medical Waiver yr
Dom Jones - 2 yrs
Barrett Matthews - 1yr
McFarland - 3 yrs
Terrell - 3 yrs
DJ Grant - 1 yr plus 1 or 2 Medical Waiver years (lost 2 seasons to knee injury)

I don't know if Irby or Grant plan on playing their Medical Waiver years. But next year looks ok for TE numbers. With the use of a TE and an H-Back at times, it seems like we ought to have 4 on the roster. I doubt a TE is added this recruiting year. Also, Traylon Shead may be available for the H-Back position if things get too congested at RB.

Watch for much more attrition this off season as the new coaches have showed their preferences and their dog houses have been stocked.

Whenever you have that much turnover in the staff, it happens on the team as well after the first season.

Bible, cotton, shead, white, a kicker, a couple others.

"DJ Grant - 1 yr plus 1 or 2 Medical Waiver years (lost 2 seasons to knee injury" ____ You can't have more than 1 extra yr for a medical hardship

tholly, thanks, I stand corrected.

I misinterpreted the rule to provide replacement of missed year(S) of game competition but it only allows one extra year as you said. So, Grant would have a 2012 senior season and a 2013 medical waiver season available if it is applied for and awarded.

Based on the latest Harsinwhite offense, I think we need a fullback. Maybe Bergeron will grow into the role, but he's a sweet change of pace at TB who is will be a great complementary piece to Brown and Gray.

Searels is cautiously optimistic is the last I read over the weekend! I'd post a link, but it would be to a pay site and we all know how that goes...
