Schlitterbahn New Braunfels

Past experience at Schlitterbahn in SPI has taught:

a) get there 15 minutes before the rope drops, and
b) don't just park your stuff at the first table b/c everyone coming in later in the day will be doing the same.

Anyone have any suggestions where to camp out for the day? This is tricky given that we'll have 3.5 generations:

1) grandmother who wants to park it and read a book in the shade,
2) parents who would prefer a swim-up bar within 20 paces,
3) teens who are ready to take on the world, and
3.5) a 4 yo and a 7 yo who aren't ready to be out of sight, but who aren't going to be content just making splashes in a kiddie pool either.

I know we can rent some cabanas at Schlitterbahn East near the Krystal River, but other than Boogie Bahn the rides are slim pickins and I don't remember how hard I have to work to keep the beer cold. All I remember about Blastenhoff is a bunch of long/fun slides but no shade and it was hot/crowded.

Over at Schlitterbahn West (original Schlitterbahn) they have the big Lagoon with a swim-up bar and trees covering the picnic benches, but I also remember it being crowded since that is relatively close to the entrance and everyone plops their cooler in that general area.

Someone give me the location of their honey-hole. I promise you and I will not be there on the same day.

Looks like I am heading there soon as well and I would appreciate additional advice/suggestions.

Best Advice is go to walmart and buy however many of the nice flaot tubes with back rests and drink holders, a cooler (NEw Braunfels has size restrictions) and float right by the lines at Schlitterbahn and enjoy the Comal River instead. take the money you saved and buy a couple shuttle rides, and if you have kids that are 11 or older that can swim with a darn, just let them do "laps" on "the Chute."

Go eat at Huisache just south of the square look to the left for the one story building tucked behind the two story building next to the rail road tracks. Possibly the best bang for the buck food in all of Texas (I know sounds like an exaggeration but high quality for a reasonable price with nice portion sizes. The Info is all online, good wine list at a reasonable price.

Schlitterbahn to me would be the place they would send me if I HELL was specifically designed for me. Lines upon lines, with people frigging everywhere.

TRY the chute one day and Schlitterbahn the other. One is a lot more fun, and God knows the people watching is a lot better on the Comal.

All areas at the park have their pluses and minuses. I like the Surfenburg part because it has the Crystal River where you can float on a tube endlesslly in a long circle and you always wind up back where you started. The little kids can have fun and you never lose them. It's not as picturesque as the old part but it is a good place to stake out. The older kids and adults can always go off and find what they like.
