Schiano bolts Rutgers, betrays recruits

a little surprised since he didn't even leave rutgers for the miami opening that he was supposedly first in line for. as long as the big east keeps losing key people, i am ok with it.

Well also maybe it is just an unexpected opportunity. Remember PSU Coach Joe Paterno had several pro offers one of with New England that offered him 7 percent ownership which would be worth many millions today but out of loyalty to PSU he stayed. And look what they did to him near the end.

Millions or not, this is just bad timing! Dang... I feel not only for the new recruits that end up signing this coming Wednesday, but for the team he just left!

I don't see a big difference between leaving 1 week before signing day, 1 month before signing day, or 2 months before signing day. The more time out gives recruits more time to look at other schools before they fill up all their spots. But in terms of simply telling the kids they are going to be there and then leaving, it is all the same. And if there was a possibiity of leaving wouldn't you want your coach to be working 100% to earn his salary? In order to do that he has to recruit 100% like he is staying.

Now I understand how this isn't good for the recruits. However I think the real problem is the rule that allows coaches to leave but does not allow recruits the ability to switch committments when this happens. At least in this case the coach didn't leave 1 week after signing day.

The kids will get the last laugh watching Schiano coach the **** *** Bucs for 2yrs, going 6-26 before being canned.

THe giu atayed at Rutgers over a decade. How can his loyalty to Rutgbers be even questioned.

As someone in the business I feel like I am accurate in saying you stay for eleven years you have done your part for that institution. If you don't look out for your family nobobdy else is either.

Too bad that it happened right as recruiting comes to an end but life ain't perfect.

Good for him.

What is a college coach supposed to say? There might be a chance I am leaving? I am sure that will help recruiting a great deal. I have never understood why college coaches have this "unwritten" rule that they are supposed to stay where they are otherwise they are just being greedy or whatever.

He didn't betray anyone from what I know. There is no good way to leave a NCAA head job. At least he did it before the recruits signed on the bottom line.
