Schedules

I was just taking a peek at some of the schedules of the top tier teams in the country this year, and I must say that I'm starting to be more and more impressed with the quality of top tier programs willing to play each other, and early on. It will really help grow the game IMO. Its hard for me to say this, but a great example is Texas aTm's ooc schedule. They open up at Louisville, return home to face Penn St. And Uconn. Talk about a difficult first three games of the season, because all three teams will spend some weeks in the top 10 this year!! They will know rather quickly what their team is made of.

That's why I keep on harping that Texas shouldn't be afraid to schedule top teams. Picking UCLA to play in Houston underwhelms when you compare it to A&M's OOC.

I understand for the first year though. Because there are so many unknowns, and it would viewed as very foolish in terms of coaching to have a gauntlet type schedule in year one if you wind up losing 10+ games. I too would've probably taken the conservative approach as well. And don't be fooled, minus those 2 games (because I view st johns and penn st as being pretty close to equal) Texas' schedule is just as competitive when you factor in the conference portion. The b12 has no gimmie's unless your name is Baylor.
